I ordered a XP1700 Thoroughbred B OEM from Newegg.com to replace my 1ghzThunderBird in my Soyo Dragon + MB. I got the CPU yestrday and tried to install it last night. First I just put some ACII on it and locked it in. Booted up and it would not post, the drives and fans come on , but no beeps from the MB. So I put my old CPU back in and I went and downloaded the latest BIOS, flashed it. Put the new CPU in booted up again and it still would not post. I reset the CMOS and popped the battery out, still no post.

Help..
Any ideas on what to try? I don't have another MB laying around but I know it works cause it works just fine with the other CPU..
I have never had a dead CPU so I am not sure if that is the problem or not. If it is the CPU are they going to give me crap about the Artic Silver stuff on the CPU if I RMA it?

Thanks for any advice!!!
Update:
I tried a different BIOS last night, messed with multiplier settings to no avail.
I am getting THIS board and selling mine to a friend up here at work.
Thanks again...

I have a Soyo Dragon and it sucks when it comes to TB's. But that is besides the point.

I had the same thing happen to me with my 2100 XP. In fact everyone at Overclockers had the same problem. Some got it to work using various tricks (lowering voltage, etc), but others like me gave up an ended up buying new mb's, ram, etc :(

Thead you might want to look at.

It's actually tough to tell. A very small %tage of people actually says it does.

Yeah I checked the BIOS updates before I got it and it said they had fixed the issue with the BIOS update. But many people are still having problems. This has been a great board and I don't want to have to ditch it. Hopefully I can get it to work or else I guess get a new N'Force2...

If this mobo has multiplier settings, and since you have another CPU, set the multiplier to 11, exit, shut down, and substitute the new CPU.

It seems to me, the only reason for the new CPU not to boot is if the BIOS sets it to a non-bootable mode, which the TBB has quite a few of.

Since it's a Soyo board, do make sure that the Fan-Off Control is disabled or else have a 2100RPM+ fan on the CPUFAN1 header above the DIMM slots. Just a possible stumbling block there. :D Good luck, otherwise grab an EPoX 8RDA+ or something.

If you do have fan off, it should just down your computer if a fan is not detected. To avoid that, just hold INS on bootup. I really doubt that is the case though.

Damnit, I still ordered a 1700 anyway hoping mine will be the exception that works. If not, there goes another $100+ for a new mb.
