Apparently, my Gmail username is pretty popular. Different people have been associating their own accounts (bank, cellphone, Facebook, etc.) to it. I tolerate the "spam" messages I get for a little bit. If I had the ability to unsubscribe my e-mail from the associated service, then I would do it. If not, then I'd request a new password, erase my e-mail from their account, and leave it be.

The latest user of my Gmail account was an older fellow from Canada. After getting a couple of Facebook notifications about friend requests and updates, I was going to request a new password and dis-associate my e-mail from his account. Today, I got a notification for a new wall posting on his account: "Rest in peace my friend."

Bummer. RIP to him, indeed. Since his profile is now a virtual memorial of some sorts, I wonder if I can dis-associate my e-mail from his account without Facebook deleting his profile.

I was under the impression that it's not possible to have "duplicate" GMail and Facebook accounts/username.

Shouldn't it say "sorry account/username is already used" when registering? How did you get access to someone else account, were the passwords even the same?

Don't people usually have to click some verification link in their e-mail when they set up these accounts anyway?

Only problem about contacting facebook to get it removed from being linked is then the facebook page would be removed.

can you email some of them and say "I LIVE"

Stuff like that gets you (the legitimate owner of the email address) accused of stealing the account. Hilarity ensues after. Happens on my gmail.com account all the time. What is even more funny is I can't unsub because 1/2 the sites want me to log in and I don't know the security question answers.

After that I send it all to the spam bucket.

This. Shens. How is someone using your email account to make accounts on sites that require them to access to your email?

Though, there could be some secondary verification that the site uses instead (eg: cellphone) - my brother says that he can't use his primary e-mail for iTunes because this other lady can't figure out her own e-mail address and set up her account with his e-mail address.

Nope, not buying it.
