Guy on a motorcycle flipped me off this morning

So, tell me what I did wrong here.

I'm in gridlock this morning one lane over from the "fast" lane (which isn't moving either). It starts moving a bit and a big gap opens up that I want to move over into. I check my mirror and see a motorcycle coming up splitting lanes but he's a good 6-7 cars back and he's not moving very fast so I make my lane change. A couple seconds later he comes by and flips me off. WTF was that for? 😵

What a toolbox. I hate motorcyclists sometimes.

Edit-I live in California where lane splitting is legal.

He was splitting lanes so he thinks it's his right to break the law like that and he probably had to slow down a bit because you changed lanes legally.

Personally I would had hugged the middle of the lane a bit so he couldn't go past and been forced to actually enter the traffic lane.

Driver behind me laid it on me good with his horn because I couldn't see well enough to make a left-turn safely and proceeded slowly... As far as I'm concerned, other drivers can go fuck themselves.

Nope, this was the driver's side mirror. Objects are as close as they appear and I'm a pretty good judge of speed and distance. I'm also fairly considerate of motorcyclists since I am one. I was able to safely complete my lane change before he got anywhere near me.

I did signal.

None of the lanes were moving any faster than the others. It was stop and go.

Considering the OPs avatar and he is in CA, I'm pretty sure he knows the laws regarding spitting lanes.

I've seen them pulled over a few times on 19 down here.

Probably changing lanes without signaling intent...that would be the dick move.

Bikers getting pissed off at others when they are lane splitting is like complaining about safety of a BASE jump. Surprise, doing risky moves can actually be dangerous for your health? Which is precisely that's not taught in riding schools worth their salt.

Same goes for beginners opting for big bikers when even a 125cc has more than enough speed to break their neck in an accident.
 
I'm just amazed motorcycles riders in California get to do a move that's illegal in much of the country.
