Guy jumps into bear cage at zoo; gets mauled

Everybody knows that you're supposed to have a bucket of honey with you so the bear won't attack you. I thought everyone watched those bear and tiger documentaries when they were little like I did?

How come bears always attack people who jump in their cages but they don't (at least I don't think so) attack their handlers and cage cleaners? I mean they see people all day but certainly have no understanding of what people are (from nature). If they attack someone in the cage right away, instead of investigating (checking it out), then that means everytime you go to a zoo and stare at a bear in a cage or through glass, he is looking back thinking "meal, meal, there goes a meal, meal, meal"

Probably because the person who jumps in the cage is excited and animals always pick up on excitement and get excited themselves.

Because they have become acquainted with those people. If these are animals caught in the wild then it probably takes a long time to acclimatize them to the handlers as well. You're right they don't recognize us from nature which is why their first stance is one of aggression. They wouldn't last long as a species if they came up and hugged and kissed every strange newcomer they saw. Natural selection will naturally breed in cautiousness and aggression when dealing with the new and unexpected.

I say fuck the bear, or lion or baby seal or whatever else. The zoo can always get another one. These animals are there for our enjoyment and they are disposable.

No animal's life is worth more then a human life.

Comparing the # of people to the # of bears I'd say we could stand to lose a few, bears not so much.

Acutally i think its a very sad situation. I feel sorry for that man. I mean we can all be the e-tough guy and say, let him die. I would think that if i were in that situation that my fellow man would try and save me. Its called compassion guys!

I think its also a sad situation for the Bear. The big guy is only doing what is natural. I am glad that both survived the encounter.

We're mostely joking about saying things like shoot the guy, I know I was. The thing is I have more compassion for the bear than the guy at the moment without know more of the story. Now if they guy was mentally handicapped enough that he had no idea what he was doing, "he just wanted to hug the bear", then I would have equal compassion for both.

This was how i envisioned the situation.... no one in a right mind jumps into a dangerous animal enclosure.... I have seen a guy loose his mind recently, and its not pretty.

should have shot the asshat, not the bear

"oops" we missed... Seriously. I'm not an animal-rights activist by any means, but the bear didn't do anything wrong. You put food in its den, or if it feels threatened, it's going to eat/fight.

Again, what kind of mental handicap did the guy have? The guy contemplated jumping in for reportedly 10 minutes. If you're high enough functioning that you can contemplate something for 10 minutes, you're sane/intelligent enough to know wtf is going to happen to you if you jump in. This wasn't someone with the mind of a 3 year old wandering around in the body of a 40 year old saying "teddy bear! teddy bear! teddy bear!" and heading straight into the enclosure. And, if it was someone with the mind of a 3 year old, "The bear is going to bite you!" will get them to turn around and run off saying "bear bites! bear bites! Oh no! Bear bites! Bad bear."

Dr Pizza. I witnessed a dude having a mental break down just recently. If you have seen somone that clearly has an undiagnosed mental problem, then well, i dunno. They are fucking crazy. Irrational, the word gets true meaning.

The guy i saw go mental.... wow just wow.

"And as his massive jaws and teeth - capable of crushing steel - sank into his prey"

What kind of sensationalist bullshit is this writing?

*bites my sprite can*

MY GOD IM SUPER HUMAN ABLE TO CRUSH METALS WITH MY HORRENDOUS JAWS OF MIGHT!
