And whatever rear brake pads cost, plus labor... would be good.

Here's an idea, get the rear brakes done so you can get a legit sticker and avoid killing somebody.

Come on folks. He's not going to kill anybody even if his rear brakes go out completely, the fronts do most of the work anyway.

What sort of devil state do you live in? In IL, all we have to do is go in for emissions testing (which because of OBDI and II), consists of nothing more than them checking to make sure that the check engine light isn't on.

The only time you should worry about poor vehicle maintenance is during the trial after an illegal immigrant smashes into your wife and child's car. If you're legal you can pretty much leave all major safety systems to rot,; You're a free man of the country.

not when the pads ware out, break the cylinder and bleed fluid all over the place; totally destroying the ability to break using the main system.

Ummm, no. That is not how braking systems are designed at all. (Try diagonal circuits for the past 20-30 years.) Not to mention the spelling errors.

But by all means, keep the ATOT knee-jerk reaction train rolling.

Um... this happened to my car; break shoes where not changed for WAY to long and the brake cut itself open and leaked break fluid everywhere. Next thing i know, no breaks at all. This is a 1997 chevy sonoma.

I'm sure Aimster is trolling and I am about to post the response he expects someone to post in haste, but I will do it anyway.

Rear brake pads are cheap. Probably even cheaper than paying the guy off to give you a bad sticker would be.

Even with the fronts doing most of the work, the back still do some and if they are dead that means increased stopping distances.

Increased stopping distances are bad Mkay?

Brakes. Chevrolet S10. GMC Sonoma. OP has disc brakes, not drum brakes.

OP: Fix your brakes...it's not hard...

Aren't brake pads ~$20-40 for a set for 2 wheels? A clamp, wrench, and jack and you're done.

If it's a fake sticker and you get caught, it could mean a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine for a Class 1 misdemeanor. If it's a legit sticker and he just doesn't inspect the car, then he's probably the only one who could get in trouble.

Vehicle inspection. My car needs rear brake pads. oops

It costs $16.00 to get it done the legal way so no, $10.00 is not enough.
