He's okay, banged up and bruised and has a swollen jaw with some road rash on his face. Car cut him off on the 15 freeway and he took a spill trying to avoid. He rides a Harley and wears an open face helmet. Having the wind in your face sometimes means having an asphalt facial.
This happened Monday or Tuesday... I don't remember which day exactly but I passed by the accident scene on my commute and saw him but I wasn't sure at the time if it was him because I was actually paying attention to the road ahead of me and only took a quick glance.
He's a good dude, I've ridden with him in fact, and today was his first day back to work. He'll be okay thankfully.
That's two guys I work with who ride who have been in accidents while commuting in the past couple years.
Anyway, my point is that if you're going to ride a motorcycle at least wear a full face helmet. I have another friend at work who rides a Harley and I was talking to him today about the accident and he said he knows first hand how effective a full face helmet is as he told me a story about hitting a deer at 50mph on a ride up through one of the national parks in central California and how it kind of clicked as his head was sliding across the pavement protected only by that lightweight piece of plastic and polystyrene. He has told me this story before actually, a couple times in fact. 😀
I didn't lecture him about the helmet though... didn't even bring it up. Just told him I'm glad he's okay.
