But that is the easy way out and as Americans we love the easy way out.

 
He probably was waiting for someone that he truely cared for to have sex with, (common trait with sheltered people). He may have been more affected by this then the average person because it was a random person he didn't really want to do it with.

Also the chick could have been very unattractive and not to his "tastes". There are many things that are involved that may seem to be abnormal to you but is normal for most people.
