The cops weren't rent-a-cops, they were police officers. The guy didn't comply so he got tasered. Then he wouldn't get on his feet after he was ordered to about 8 million times so he got tasered again (FYI, you you have full mobility about 3 seconds after being hit by a taser).

I don't see what the problem is except for there being too many douchebag college students.

They're UCPD. Sometimes they suck, sometimes they're pretty cool. That's how it goes I suppose.

But according to a study published in the Lancet Medical Journal in 2001, a charge of three to five seconds can result in immobilization for five to 15 minutes

See, retarded questions like that are why people like this get tasered and then cry about it later, all the while projecting their innocence "I was only asking him a question and the guy unfairly tasered me!".

In real life dude, if a cop tells you to do something, just do it, whether you like it or not. If you feel the need to argue your point with them then you simply deserve what you get because common sense dictates that even IF, and a big IF here, even if you are right once you argue with a cop he has more power and authority than you and will excercise it.

that's not power tripping per se, that's your dumbass not knowing when to shut your mouth.

The only thing the cops told him to do was to stand up.

What's the problem? Like it or not, the police have the authority to detain and remove him. They have the authority to use reasonable force to do so. Tasing the guy achieved the result with minimum danger to the officers.

While he was walking out the door?

And was the video taken down or something? I don't see it.

Police repeatedly defend taser use saying that the only only other option would be (deadly force) a gun. Do you really think this guy should be shot?

I'm surprised that they didn't take their guns out and shoot him in the leg.

no, they asked him to leave and he would not comply.

anyway, my post was in response to Karma Polices statement that the guy who walked up to the cop to ask a question while the other guy was being tased should have a right to do that and ask his question.

I disagree. In that situation you don't just walk up to a cop and start trying to talk to him, or get him to see your point of view, or ask him to stop.

That's a good way to get your own ass tased. A cop is trained that if they are in the process of detaining someone and other individuals aproach they are warned once to move back until the altercation is settled or force will be used on that individual.

The guy may have just wanted to ask an innocent question, that's not the point. the point is the cop has no way of knowing what the guys intentions are and will do all he can to keep control of the situation to keep it from getting any uglier.

I could easily have seen the scenario where the "question asking guy" got angry and put his hand on the cop, then the cop retaliates and that already aggitaded crowd turns to a mob.

Now if a cop is sitting there with a gun to someones head and clearly in the wrong threatening their life or something then yes, I'll intervene myself, even if it means I may get my ass beat or arrested.

I will stand up for someone if I know for fact they are being wronged.

The guy here was NOT being wronged.

And everyone siding with him just wants to sensationalize it and jump to conclusions about cops.

Cops are a necessary eveil sometimes. without them we'd be in a much worse place. Until you guys who complain about them can come up with a better solution I say just STFU.

I watched the video - I am going to give the cops the benefit of the doubt here until I get more info. I think they must have told that kid a 100 times to stand up.

The article states that by the time the police got there the student was on his way out, but the police report says the UCPD had to ask the kid.

There's also a 30 minute time discrepancy from the story and the police report.

In Russia Tazers stun YOU... oh, wait...

Seriously, I have no sympathy for people being assholes to cops, ESPECIALLY when they refuse to comply. That guy just needed to obey the cops and if he had a problem with what they were doing, he could take it up with the courts later. Saying "get your hands off me", "fvck you," and talking sh!t to a cops will only make things worse for yourself. Maybe this was "don't fvck with the cops, and do as your told" lesson 101 they were teaching. I'm no psychic, but I think that kid failed that course. :)

another vote for the any type of american cop (be it proper cop or rent-a-cop) taking a ride on the power trip express and using excessive force in a situation that just doesnt require it.

they asked him to leave,

he left later than they asked but he was still on his way out

one grabs him by the arm, second one approaches

he asks to be let go, which he is entitled to do since he's not exactly threatening anyone and is just on his way out

they dont let go

he continues to ask to be let go of, getting all worked up in the process (as im sure i would if some one was grabbing hold of me for no good reason)

and the cops response to shouting = tazer?

what a cock sucking joke. i hope the cops are fired. what was wrong with simply escorting the guy out the building? he was on his way anyway, why not jus walk with him and make sure he leaves?

and friggin hell, is it a requirement that you have an IQ less than that of a carrot to be a rent-a-cop?

how can you expect some one to A) stand up and B) be supposedly fighting back while being repeatedly tazered? its not like you can actually move when electricity is contracting all your muscles.

for me this is cops on a power trip enjoying the use of their powers and weapons at the expense of an innocent person.
