Well, today marks the day i take the AMD plunge, any advice before i get started?Built my fair share of intel units, anything different here i should know about>?ANY and all advice will be appreciated.

How about sticking with Intel??? hey??

Thats a good advice..

By the way, what computers are planning to build? what are they going to be used for?

Well im bascially ditching my p3-500/atrend dual slot1 mobo,for a tbird 750,ASUS A7V,I have some radioshack paste(wOw!)and a TaiSol HSF,The Ram i have is Micron Pc-100 8ns.and i have a DEER(lol) PS 300w.AM I in trouble?

You are not close to in trouble. For the system your building, what you have is quite decent. Like I said, if your gonna overclock that sucker...make sure you provide a decent amount of cooling..

Probably going to attempt it,i have a TaiSol CEK733092 HSF and some thermal paste from the Shack(not scary's) 😛 Im not sure if this is the greatest HSF,but it looks pretty!

The "deer" psu is actually pretty good. Its AMD approved so dont worry about that. And the memory and everything else sound good. The only thing I would change is the motherboard. I would get an MSI-PRO2a because they are more stable and cheaper.

well,if i run into any kind of trouble i guess ill have to throw back in the atrend etc for now.Im coming out of my FPS retirement, and just want a nice fast sys.

I wouldnt even worry bout the Radio Shack compound for now. The thermal pad included with the Taisol fans are more than sufficient cooling. I use the 742 model Taisol, and it along with the extra cooling keeps my CPU temp at approx 32-33 degrees Celsius +/- and few degrees due to accuracy of probe.

The thermal pad has been removed or didnt exist, the underside on this HSF are as smooth as a babys keister 🙂,how much paste should i apply?

Just a thin amount on top of the core will do nicely. All the components you mentioned will be just fine for what you are doing. EXCEPT that tbird :|

hehe 😛

i tend to be very careful when installing HSF,im going to try my best not to screw it up,doesnt appear to be that hairy.like a gorb 🙂

Wierd thing is,my friend just got some EPox board and a tbird 1ghz and he using my fcpga Gorb on it!!! (i dunno of this is weird but it worx!)

GORBs are very similar to chrome orbs, right after the socket As were appearing a lot of people were using gorbs, and a lot of people found that they had crushed their tbird cores... A gorb sits ever so slightly different on the core than a chrome orb, its usable, but I wouldn't recomend it.

WEll looks like today wont be the day,the prick UPS guy just blew right past my house!!!!:disgust: this reaffirms another post i made that UPS sux!!!The guy sent it 2 day air now i feel bad he shouldnt have wasted his money!Scheduled Delivery was today, well i guess i can guess again!
