Well, it is a reskinned 2013 game. So it should run well on older hardware.

That's pretty good looking for a "reskinned 2013" game that runs amazingly well on so many older GPUs. This game has better looking environmental textures, lighting and shadows than any GameWorks game of 2015 and yet runs like butter on 290X/970 level cards.

It's very difficult to make snow look realistic on the PC without destroying performance if snow is to have particle physics and individual shading:

Release unoptimized turd that looks crap for the performance, get praise from review sites for destroying GPUs and included in benchmarks "just because it's demanding".

Release a highly optimized game that looks great and performs great... people accuse it of not pushing the tech enough. Alien Isolation anyone? That's one great look game that runs into 3 digit FPS on modest hardware, whereas the original Metro still runs like donkey these days.

Can't win.

Outside of Dying Light, what's a better FPS game graphically that came out in 2015? Compared to the trailers we've seen thus far on FO4, this looks way better.

I'll raise it one more - what's a better looking FPS from Crysis 3 until SW:BF?

In some parts, the game looks incredible.

No it is not a reskinned Battlefield game ...

The game features new technologies not found in older games like physically based rendering and volumetric lighting ...

Ya, I mean I don't remember any BF game looking this good.

This game has way better looking textures than Wolfenstein NWO, Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Shadow of Mordor and even Dying Light and it doesn't require a 4GB+ GPU to achieve them smoothly.

For this level of graphics, I would vote this as one of best optimized PC game of 2015, right up there with Mad Max but Max doesn't have graphics that good. If this was a GameWorks title, all of that rock/terrain/snow would be over-tessellated x64 and ensure that wouldn't be able to max it out until 2018 on dual $650 Voltas, and CF scaling wouldn't work right for months, and Kepler cards would be bombing ;)

Hear, hear! HardOCP gave Alien Isolation a glowing review for one of the best uses of DX11 ever and a beautiful looking game. But they choose not to include it for reviews because even at 1440 it wasn't taxing.

Brent defends game choices based on pushing tech and popularity. What he really means is choosing games in which high end cards still struggle, and nothing else matters. That's why we see Dying Light and not Alien Isolation which really used DX11 well. That's why we see Project Cars and not any other reasonable game. They actively reward poor optimizations.

All recent Nvidia and AMD cards support DSR and VSR. Hey geniuses (Brent and Kyle), include Alien Isolation 3200x1800 or 3840x2160 benchmarks along with other games at 2560x1440. Everyone with a 1440 monitor and a high end card will be playing the game with VSR/DSR anyway.

I'm not trying to hype Alien Isolation too much, even if it was my favourite game of 2014, but this applies to many other well optimized and good looking games as well. If a game is good looking, uses good tech, but isn't demanding (aka optimized), then simply use VSR and DSR - it's common sense. But instead I'm just waiting for Ark to show up in benchmarks so I can really facepalm.

well said. this game is definitely the best looking game of 2015. Very well optimized. thats something we have come to expect from Frostbite engine based games. btw this is the first game in recent times where Fury X rocks in scaling from R9 390X. 35-40% faster than R9 390X. Outstanding. Is SW BF using any form of Async Compute ? Those 4k shaders are really pulling their weight and the 980 Ti gets thrashed at 4k in multiplayer. Fury X almost 20% faster than 980 Ti. Wow. DICE really know how to get the best out of AMD hardware

If this was a GameWorks title, all of that rock/terrain/snow would be over-tessellated that we wouldn't be able to max it out until 2018 on dual $650 Voltas, while the particles/explosions would probably require a dedicated 980Ti as a PhysX card.

that was a good one

very well said. hardocp guys brent and kyle actually think that a game is pushing tech if it runs slow on the latest hardware at the highest settings. They do no comparative study of the image quality and the graphics with other modern games like BF4 or Dragon Age Inquisition. imo hardocp guys have totally lost all their credibility. Their test suite is filled with unoptimized trash like Dying Light and downright rubbish like Project Cars.

I challenge Brent and Kyle to prove that Dying Light has better graphics than Star Wars Battlefront or Dragon Age Inquisition or even the good old BF4. Frostbite and DICE are symbols of the very best of PC gaming graphics. I rate Frostbite and Cryengine as the engines which have the best graphics and constantly push PC graphics forward.

The next 6 months is going to bring a host of AMD GE titles like Hitman, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Ashes of Singularity, Mirror's Edge Catalyst. These titles will demonstrate cutting edge PC graphics. AMD GE titles have always been very well optimized and very well reviewed games (both technically and artistically) by gamers and critics. That trend will continue while the Gameworks nightmare will also continue with pathetic performing and buggy rubbish being published.

I dont believe Async Compute works in DX-11 but i could be wrong, it could also be things like physical based rendering that is very compute heavy.

that was a good one

It does not use asynchronous compute on PC ...

That strictly requires the GPU to support feature level 12_0 since Direct3D 11.3 runtime does not have that feature along with bindless ...

I had fun with this beta on both of my rigs below at 1440 resolution. Graphics are great. Would I buy it? Not sure BUT releasing this beta sure makes me think about it.

This game is very well optimized and looks gorgeous. I didn't think I'd be able to run it as well as I did @ 1440p.

If anyone is interested in buying it - Use this promo code ( GMGMID-SEASON-25PERC ) at Green Man Gaming and get 25% off - Bringing the total to $45. I might bite at that price.

Ran better than expected on my R9 270 at 1080p. Stuck around 45 FPS maxed out with low FXAA.

thanks for the code, at that price I bit. I was going to wait until it hit 30-40ish but at 45 ill grab it before people stop playing it

You're welcome. I'm still on the fence. With the little time I have to game, it's SW:BF or Fallout 4... I haven't made up my mind as of yet.

I believe it. Especially since PS4, XB1, and PC were all able to play the BETA.

You're not kidding too, the day the pre-order version opens for play is the same day FO:4 comes out :O

I don't even know what this game is all about. How was the BETA? You guys liked it or what? I don't suppose they have the M98B in there, do they?

I really enjoyed the BETA. It's over now, but I had a lot of fun with it for the short time it was available. Sorry to say; no M98N for you :p

Played the beta of this games and was totally disappointed...bad arcade gameplay, matchmaking in Cod style, graphics didnt look that good to me to be honest.

it doesnt look that much better then battlefield 3 despite being 2,5x more taxing on the gpu..bf4 looks better plays better and after all these updates its an overall better game by a good margin.

would not play sw battlefront not even for free, boring dull game made to attract minecraft 12yrs old gamers.

I liked the graphics, the performance, quick matchmaking, hipfire, battle pickups, simplified loadout (in bf4 there's so many useless weapons and attachments) and simpler gameplay (no medbags or ammo).

I didn't like the balance, spawns, grenade spam, not being able to see pings, awkward vehicle behaviour, vehicle aim being off (reticle doesn't correct for 3rd person camera and no cockpit view)

I'd love to see a singleplayer starwars game with these graphics and assets, preferably a game in the jedi knight series, maybe by bioware, jedi academy is in many ways similar to mass effect 2.

SW BF doesn't look much better than BF3? :whiste:

Were you playing the game at 800x600 on low settings?

I still play BF3 and I was all over this beta and I totally disagree with your post. And even for those that didn't like the game play everyone I have spoke to had nothing but good things to say about the graphics.

Easy solution, buy both but wait for Bethesda to fix FO4 before you play it. That gives you about 6-7 months to play SW:BF.

What kind of idiot would intentionally buy a new release and wait for it to be fixed instead of buying it when it works and is cheaper? Do you want more games like Arkham Knight?

I wanted the pipboy edition and didn't know whether or not it would be easily available... so preordered it (from 2 places actually).

I don't plan on opening it right away though to see how the market shakes out on it.
