It's over, Nvidia is finished.

Great first post:thumbsup:
I like him already.

I love the Irony. 😀

Has anyone ever been banned over a first post?

Yes, yes they have. They've also been banned for no other reason than hailing from Christchurch, NZ...😛

Back on-topic please.

1 post and NV is finished. LOL you an AMD lurker?

Look at his name, it has both "A" and "D" in it, and "W", which is just an upside down "M". Must be an AMD mole. 😛

Funny, but entirely off-topic. Please get back to the topic.

That's actually Rollo's new account. He's spent the past couple years getting indoctrinated in Sunnyvale.

Are they really gonna keep the current naming? Its already approaching past cards and all... Part of me would love the see an HD 9700 of course, but it would have to be a hell of a card to live up to its name

Exactly, they bought AMD

Nvidia wishes they could buy AMD. Then they wouldn't desperately be trying their hand at ARM CPUs. A completive field where Nvidia will lose out to the other ARM venders for some time. Not to mention Intel’s Oaktrail Atom CPUs are top notch just as AMD’s Bobcat CPUs.

Agree. But the point was, NV have a s..tloads of cash, contrary to AMD, and can continue to produce big, inefffective cards for years primariy because of a strong brand. But NV stands no chance of buying AMD, simply because they dont have that much cash. The market value of AMD is to high.

NV can easily buy AMD by leveraging the purchase price through an LBO. The real reason the transaction would not be completed is because it would not pass regulatory approval due to monopolistic dominance (also I don't think the x86 CPU license would be transferable). Anyone who thinks NV is "done" because AMD is going to release 28nm GPUs is just being gullible/uninformed. NV sells GTX580s for $500 (not to mention their Tesla and Quadro lines). The company's financial position is far superior to AMD's. They could sell 580s for $300 and still make $$$. Also, NV will have their 28nm offerings to compete with AMD. In fact, AMD's stock performance in the last 10 years is a negative return to the investor. I have heard the same story when Fermi was released (and even then NV's profit margins easily surpassed AMD's). The bottom line is NV's stock has resulted in a ~60% upside in the last 10 years vs. -67% for AMD.

What makes you think that it's going to be anything special System-load wise? It's going to be a PS3/X360 game as well so don't get your hopes up like a lot of people did for Crysis 2.

Because it's DICE's lead platform and the graphics in the trailers are stunning.
Anyone who had expectations in Crysis 2 probably didn't watch the trailers last year.

Anyway, enough off topic, I am sure there's a BF3 thread somewhere.

Cause its built from the ground up to support DX10/11. There isnt even a DX9 path.

Anyway, I have a hard time balieving 28nm will be ready for mass production by Q2. Also Im really looking forward to 28nm. Seems like it will really let AMD and nV strech their legs. Could we see the 1st 1ghz GPU from the factory or a 1024SP Kepler? Would be awesome.

Market value, especially in a situation of a takeover, is not about the last 10 years and a product - gtx580, that holds no economical value whatsoever for nv. The financial investor who should bring the cash for the party (LBO), couldnt care less for NV. NV are of no use for the investor, NV is stupid money themselves because you dont need, and dont want to pay for, two brands as an investor. Fancy words, green and red doesnt change that. There will probably come another investor, we already had good hints from anand about that.

I dont think any in this thread seriously think 28nm is the doom for NV, - it was just a joke.

yeap clocks are bound to rise abit... and AMD has alot of 800-900's mhz on the GPUs, so theres bound to be stock 1,000mhz GPUs on 28nm.

What makes 28nm intresting is we will probably see a doubleing or so in performance at topend.

A single GPU card faster than a 6970 crossfire setup,... will probably happend with 28nm.

Even just thinking... twice as much.... can you imagine something twice as fast as a 6990 or 590?

If you look at performance graphs from the past decade, each card with a new architecture is typically 75-80% faster than the last high end product from the same manufacturer, +/- 10%.

I think I'm going to forego buying another GTX 580 and instead wait for 28nm and sell my 580 and my 6950 (flashed to 6970, @ 920 GPU its damn close to a 570 stock anyways).

My Core 2 Quad system holds my 6950 and it has no problems running pretty much anything besides Metro 2033 maxed out, which I dont really enjoy playing Metro 2033 nearly as much as BF:BC2 or Starcraft 2, etc... which both run @ 1920x1200 4xAA just fine on a Q6600 @ 3.78 Ghz and the 6950... so basically even on my lesser rig I can run everything which is keeping me from SLI'ing or CF'ing on either rig even though the Sandy Bridge rig with the 580 would benefit insanely from SLI, it's just not cost effective. Right now you can get the 590 for ~650-700ish, which is like getting 2 580s for 325 each (if you OC).

It's been proven wrong so many times on this forum that I can't even count. 590 will never be as good as 580SLI, that card just isn't meant to be over-clocked. Its VRM section just can't supply enough current to feed two fully clocked GF110 dice. Even 570SLI properly over-clocked will walk all over oced GTX590. Personally I wouldn't risk over-clocking it at all, it's a very "fragile" card.

The joy of forums and let me start of by stating the world is almost finished so Nvidia being finished isnt a problem.

Anyways 28nm is for all AMD, NVIDIA.. anyone who wants it through TSMC or GF

🙂 i'm just hoping that Nvidia can release the next Geforce 28nm very soon after AMD or even at the same time.. fingers crossed

Just because there isnt a DX9 path means it is built ground up in DX11? That is just pure speculation. You do know this is a console game as well meaning the engine must support the DX9 hardware in the Xbox and PS3. Do you think they built separately from the ground up for PC and consoles? Or would a more likely explanation be: They dropped DX9 so that they have a good excuse to drop XP support saving time and money as well as producing the impression of giving special attention to PC version.

I want to believe all is good but look at DICE past history: BC2 also looked impressive before launch and was also hyped up to make full use of PC hardware. But it turned out the game looks largely the same on consoles.
