A 26-year-old Phoenix man accidentally killed himself early Sunday morning while explaining gun safety to two Sierra Vista residents.
Samuel Benally Jr. was at an apartment on West Tacoma Street when he said people should keep their guns unloaded because someone could point it at their heads, said Sierra Vista police Sgt. Brett Mitchell.
Benally then demonstrated by putting his own .9 mm Rueger, which he believed to be unloaded, to his head and firing it, Mitchell said.
Benally was flown to University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased, Mitchell said.
An investigation is ongoing; police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, Mitchell said.

I hired that guy for a lesson once. The training was a blast, he was really good at getting it into your head.

I own a Ruger... I can understand not knowing much about guns and spelling it Rueger, but .9mm? Either the author doesn't know that .9mm is 3/100", or they didn't take the 15 seconds to proofread the article.

What was it, a month ago that the exact same thing happened to a guy who was in the military? Seems kind of suspicious.

LOL as much as it's not funny to laugh at someone's death, I can't help but laugh at how it happened. I picture this class with students listening "... So always keep your gun unloaded that way if someone comes up to you and points it to your head and shoo" **BANG** *thud* students: "OMG call 911!"

lol there's also one where the guy shot himself in the foot.

If a loved one says "I want to go teach gun lessons to kids" assume they are suicide and try to stop them. :p

Yeah there's where I seen it. Quite funny. In most cases if a gun fires in the middle of a gun safety class, it's not good. :p

"He was just very very stupid."

And the followup lesson by his successor:
"Always follow the assumption that a gun is loaded."

That probably wasn't what he was shooting for, but hopefully the teacher's words don't go in one ear and out the other, and the audience knows not to lose their heads around guns...
