Gunning for highest grade in AP Stat class

So there's like 5 people in my class here with 1450+ SAT's, are in the run for valecdictorian, etc...And I'm just a runt in the litter here.

However, being that it's my last year if high school, it has become the object of my desire to get the highest grade in that class. Usually it wouldn't be close to possible, but I have one advantage on them, and it's the fact that the rest of my schedule is relatively very easy, while everyone else's schedule is filled with all these other AP/Honors classes.

So to those who come before me in taking this class, what can I do?

I figure I can start by finishing this post and getting off the forums for now (and so we both win 🙂) and get reading this book of ours..but should I get an extra study guide or whatever? I'm not the best mathematician out there, but that's usually because I hardly ever study for things--though I do hate word problems. I prefer just numbers and such things.

Die? How is that done?

Won't you show me by setting an example?

I'm also taking that class and my teacher constantly says that it's not like the other math courses - in here, you'll read and write a lot rather than do computations. so if you have good comprehension skills, you'll be at an advantage.

btw, I'll bet you I'll get a higher score 🙂 I'll try to remember this bet when may comes around.

get one of my relatives to tutor you 😉

Doubtful that those who do well on the SATs would be able to help you in this situation... you might just want to try as hard as you can in the class - you don't necessarily need the highest grade, unless it's some sort of an ego thing. Just aim for that 'A'. Unless you get a cool prize for being top dog in the class... like a "I HEART STATS" T-shirt...

Besides.... look at me, aced my AP English class - had the valdictorian (who's now at STANFORD) in my class, still burned her ass... I just ripped it up, and I hardly studied... but then again, that's English - but if it means anything - you're related to me 🙂 and I'm pretty damn successful 🙂

Many of the people who do that well on SATs (in my school) don't fare so well on the AP tests, which require deeper thinking (IMHO). At governor's school, there were plenty of 1600 SATers and 1500+ people. But only a couple had managed a 5 on the chem test like I did, and I dunno what happened with US History, as I haven't found a single 5 yet for 2000-2001, but I managed a 3.

This year: Physics (I fear), Economics (shouldn't be too hard), Calculus AB (cake, shame that Calculus BC conflicted in my schedule), and Comp. Sci. (cake with my teacher). Hopefully walk out with 2-3 5's, and the rest 4's. Though my school doesn't cover micro-ec very well, nor the one Physics test, so they might be lower 😛

Ha. My school gives away a car (donated by a local dealership) every year, and it goes to some loser that never gave a second thought to school. Rest of us get a pat on the back and invitation to buy our own[/EDIT]

Hey man, don't worry bout it. The AP Stat test is not very hard. I didn't take the class, but studied on my own a little and still got a 5. It's a lot of reading and some memorizing, but not difficult stuff. If you've taken Calc already, it should be a piece of cake. IF not, it is still not too hard. Just do your homework and pay attention in class. That always works for me 😉 And don't forget to ask for help from your teacher when you need it.

Stats has to be the easiest math class. All you have to do is learn to read a paragraph, diagnose what circumstances occur in the paragraph, and then plug those numbers into your calculator using the right function. A lot of people in my stats class got 5's on the AP test.

i took ap stats my senior year. that has got to be the easiest ap test on earth. got a 5. What was funny was the teacher hated me, because i didnt do my homework and hovered at 89% grade until right before grades came out and i'd bump it up to 91% or so to get an A. She threatened to give me a U in citizenship when i kept talking when she told me to do my homework since she gave us free time.

The funniest thing was that i was with a friend of mine from high school at ucla, and the next year she was teaching there for a quarter. So she hugged my friend, and hugged me, it was the wierdest thing. HAHA

I got like a 15 something on SATs, and well, i got so many Bs in high school, i wasnt even in the top 5 percentile.
