i just love these types of stories with happy endings. good riddance

I don't understand why they tried to get the shotgun away from the guy and THEN shoot him.
That just sounds risky ... as soon as the shotgun is pointed to a safe direction, presumably with the guys hand off the trigger, put couple rounds in the center mass. Regular .45 should throw him off his feet, right? (Any LEO that can confirm?)

Or alternatively start shooting while you're trying to grab the shotgun from him - keep the barrel pointed to a safe direction and put him away.

Are you serious?

The two guys were standing close together and being "held at gunpoint". Meaning the shotgun was pointed at them. It was never in a "safe direction".

It takes time to draw a gun, and it takes 2 hands to disarm a shotgun. You take away one and you'll probably get slugged, knocked back and shot.

1 guy with a 12 gauge is watching 2 dudes with a handgun. I'm thinking there was a safer way to disarm the shotgun guy without first wrestling him and then shooting him.

More importantly you're not trying to disarm him, you're just trying to control the barrel of the shotgun while you shoot the guy.

A 12 gauge has spread. You make the two guys stand close together and you have to adjust the angle maybe 2 degrees to hit one or the other.

And like I said, there's no way to control a shotgun and draw a weapon at the same time. Remember that the gunman is going to be resisting while you are trying to disarm hm. Sure you could move the barrel away, but then the butt of the gun comes up and slams you in the side of the face while your other arm is uselessly at your hip trying to draw your gun. Never mind that at that range he could simply grab your gun if he sees you going for it.

I also have training to back these statements up btw.

Do you miraculously know the choke, barrel length and load in the shotgun? At close ranges like in a home, that spread is at most a few inches. Not enough to take two down with one shot. If it was a semi-auto, those two were extremely lucky. The watcher is working on the fear of one of the men fearing he is the one that will be shot while the other closes in and so they wont' charge.

But I agree, one on one, you wont' be drawing while disarming someone else.

They all should have died. Drug dealers and robbers.
Start with liquor store owners and cigarette-selling gas station owners. Alcohol and tobacco are two of the most dangerous drugs in existence, and we don't have to go hunting these people down - they advertise their presence with lighted signs.
Christ....
Good thinking. By killing these obviously innocent people in His name we can get to sleep at night.

No, a gun will not throw someone off their feet. That's a myth spurred on by movies. Even high powered rifles will not throw someone off their feet.

I dunno, a hit from a Ma Deuce would probably knock someone down. :p

Good.

I had a partner in Vegas that had a home invasion, his wife was raped while he was tied up. He was never the same after that as you can imagine.

Lowlifes like that need a certain justice.

The first statement makes the second utter crap. You ahve obviously never fired a shotgun at targets closer than 20 feet.

Even a shotgun with an 18" barrel (the shortest legal lenglth) will NOT have any signifigant spread at home defense distances (under 20 feet).

None, nada. The average home defense distance is more like 8-10 feet. The gouping will be twice the size of the barrel still, MAYBE an inch bigger at most. So at most, 3 inches with an open choke barrel.

It sounds like an intruder can walk into any home in CA and injury himself and then sue the homeowner whether he was there or not.

Wow, that article was poorly written. I've had to read from the beginning at least 3 or 4 times to understand the story.

Very poorly written article.

Nah, they save that for 14 year old kids who receive blowjobs.

anyone that throws out 'center of mass' and technobabble like that usually doesn't know what they are talking about.

Let me rephrase this - 2-3 rounds of .45 into the center mass will put the guy down, correct? I don't mean "literally" throw him off his feet as if someone threw a 45lb excercise ball at him.

It's tough to personally blame drug dealers - if not that guy , someone else will do it. There's a demand for a high risk job of selling drugs that will always be filled by someone.

That's like blaming Jose, the illegal gardener, for all the problems associated with illegal immigration. He's just a guy filling out the demand; if you put him away, tomorrow you'll have Carlos, the illegal gardener and nothing will change.

This.

Is that why the sell silhouette targes with the center mass drawn in?

Do you stay awake at night for fear of being invaded and assaulted by paper or cardboard silhouette targets? I know I do.
