i just love these types of stories with happy endings. good riddance
I don't understand why they tried to get the shotgun away from the guy and THEN shoot him.
That just sounds risky ... as soon as the shotgun is pointed to a safe direction, presumably with the guys hand off the trigger, put couple rounds in the center mass. Regular .45 should throw him off his feet, right? (Any LEO that can confirm?)
Or alternatively start shooting while you're trying to grab the shotgun from him - keep the barrel pointed to a safe direction and put him away.
Are you serious?
The two guys were standing close together and being "held at gunpoint". Meaning the shotgun was pointed at them. It was never in a "safe direction".
It takes time to draw a gun, and it takes 2 hands to disarm a shotgun. You take away one and you'll probably get slugged, knocked back and shot.
1 guy with a 12 gauge is watching 2 dudes with a handgun. I'm thinking there was a safer way to disarm the shotgun guy without first wrestling him and then shooting him.
More importantly you're not trying to disarm him, you're just trying to control the barrel of the shotgun while you shoot the guy.
A 12 gauge has spread. You make the two guys stand close together and you have to adjust the angle maybe 2 degrees to hit one or the other.
And like I said, there's no way to control a shotgun and draw a weapon at the same time. Remember that the gunman is going to be resisting while you are trying to disarm hm. Sure you could move the barrel away, but then the butt of the gun comes up and slams you in the side of the face while your other arm is uselessly at your hip trying to draw your gun. Never mind that at that range he could simply grab your gun if he sees you going for it.
I also have training to back these statements up btw.
Do you miraculously know the choke, barrel length and load in the shotgun? At close ranges like in a home, that spread is at most a few inches. Not enough to take two down with one shot. If it was a semi-auto, those two were extremely lucky. The watcher is working on the fear of one of the men fearing he is the one that will be shot while the other closes in and so they wont' charge.
But I agree, one on one, you wont' be drawing while disarming someone else.
