The most accurate rifle under $600 is the Savage arms 110FP period. The next up in price would be a sendero from remington for about $750.
Guys are reporting 3" groups at 500m with both of these, prone after some trigger mods.
Uh, you can do that with an out of the box DCM Bushmaster or RRA National Match. Less than $1000 for either one. Both are sub 3/4MOA. Both rifles will shoot better than the user can do. Expense means nothing. Those rifles were a few hundred bucks until they were banned. They are hardly tack drivers like the match ARs that are put out at a quarter the price. The USMC uses RRA rifles for their match guys.
I've heard that if you strip the rifle down and soak it in gasoline, it cleans up pretty fast. I've also heard that some people managing to light themselves on fire using this method
Yeah it works really well, but is horrid for the finish. It's not something you'd do to clean a mil surplus rifle, though it does just melt away the cosmo. Best method I've found is Clorox Oxygen Action, Purple Power, heating, more heating, and more heating, then finishing.
Okay, I am going to take the plunge. I never thought about building my own rifle before, but what the hell. I am calling my FFL today about ordering an AR-15 lower from Fulton Arms $150, and then ordering a CAR-15 kit from j&T $500 with options. I will post pics when it is done.
Good choice with J&T, I'll have a CAR kit coming soon. Probalby going to get an RRA lower for $114 shipped from one of the guys on AR15.com
The only tools you will have to have (well not have to, but will really, really be handy) will be roll pin tools. Like $10 for the 4 you will need. Supposed to be a bitch without them. Everything else can be done with a screwdriver and hands (maybe a rubber mallet). The J&T uppers come fully assembled. All you'll need to do is complete the lower (instructions on AR15.com) and drop in the upper.
And yeah, the CETME is a good crowd pleaser. Just don't be next to it
😉
