Gun thread - help finding a pistol

I'm in the market for a full frame polymer 9mm semi-auto handgun. The problem I'm having is lots of them don't feel right in my hand.

For example, take the S&W M&P. It feels like the trigger reach (distance between the trigger and the web of my hand between thumb and index finger) is small. If you look at the grip, the backstrap sticks way out but then it goes in right at the top where the web between the thumb/index finger is, making the trigger smaller.

My question is this - why do the different backstrap grip sizes they give you with the M&P not change the trigger reach? If you have bigger hands with longer fingers and need the bigger grip, wouldn't you also want a longer trigger reach?

I tried the XD but that was definitely the worst. Glocks were marginally better but I don't really like their grip angle. I can't remember what the Sigs were like but I don't like their SA/DA for some reason.

For some reason 1911 frames seem much better in my hand. If you look at their grips, they actually stick out where the web between the finger and thumb is instead of going in like most polymer pistols.

Maybe I'm just holding it incorrectly? My fingers are slender but I only wear M/L size gloves.

FNP9 might be the best feeling polymer pistol I have ever held. I would say you need to try that. It also has changeable back straps.

The backstraps don't go all the way up on the FNP9 either - changing backstraps won't change the trigger reach. I don't understand this.

I can't find any FNP9s at the two local gun ranges to try out unfortunately. All the 9mm are M&P/Glock/Sig/XD.

Sig comes in more than da/sa. They also come in dao. I'm assuming you tried the SP2022 and P250 since sig traditionally had steel or alloy framed guns in their classic P2xx series. Try HK, they make some good plastic guns.

Guns are personal and I personally don't like the 1911. Regarding the 1911 grip, are you talking about the grip safety? When you're holding it, it kind of negates that extra material since it is pressed into the gun.

So are you looking for a polymer frame in the 1911 style? Maybe you like the slide trigger instead of the pivoting trigger.

try a CZ P-01. I have read tons of reviews from professionals and regular guys like you and me that say that the CZ P-01's grip feels the great and I agree. It's a very nice feeling.

edit: P-01 is compact frame. It does have a full size frame big brother called the SP-01 though, so try that one.

also try a Beretta 92 or a Taurus 92 (beretta 92 clone).

you know a gun is supposed to feel different than a wiener in your hand right?

some get confused.

What will you be using this gun for though? That's one of the main criteria when grips are being selected/types of guns.
