Gun-range shootings raise fear of copycats

The man's death ? coming three weeks after an Altamonte Springs woman killed her son and then herself at the same gun range ? prompted Shoot Straight to stop renting guns to most customers.

i guess this provides another source for people who wants to kill themselves. but they're ruining it for other people.

Well, they haven't gotten rid of the Golden Gate bridge or tall buildings yet, so hopefully they won't get rid of renting guns.

The range by me lets you use their guns for free, it's a good way to find what gun fits your hand if you were interested in buying, so there is certainly a practical reason to have them available.

We just need to set up some suicide booths. Problem solved.
Eye gouge for $10 extra ?

The ranges in my area won't rent a gun to you unless you have a shooting partner or brought you own gun. It's their little suicide prevention safeguard, although it does nothing to prevent murder suicides, such as in this case.

The range I go to will rent pistols once you have taken a safety course (unless you already have a firearm with you). And if you rent a full auto (they rent some nice fully auto rifles) then they keep a employee next t you the entire process.

well, suicides never care about other people, only themselves. Nothing shocking here....

I wonder if I can license the idea for Suicide Booths from Matt Groening. Sounds like I could make a fortune...

Edit:
Nevermind. I should read the thread before posting next time...

Yeah, I don't care if people want to kill themselves. I think everyone should have the right to choose to end their life. I just wish they'd do it in a way that didn't negatively impact other people (aside from the pain of losing someone you love, which is not avoidable).

That's a good idea.

You can rent fully automatic MP5's in Vegas.

You can use one to shoot up a casino in Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Yes, ive done that. You also have a guy with a handgun directly behind you waiting for you to do something stupid with it.

I've always wondered about that rule... I'm still not convinced they're buying safety in having two people in the lane.

people commit suicide at gun ranges ALL the time.

think about it. no need to wait for background check, and 7days to get gun.

rent one. instant gratification. impulse reaction. if u gave it thought, u might not go thru with it.

all the things you want from a shopper can be gleemed from a suicidal person too :Q

Target Masters in Milpitas?

Suicides at gun ranges have been going on since gun ranges came into existence. I know a couple years ago someone at one of the ranges in Seattle killed himself and after that they only rented to groups of two or more.

At my local range about 6 months ago some guy shot himself in the chest. I don't know why he didn't go for the head, but thankfully he didn't die so they didn't make any changes at the range.

ban guns since people kill others and suicide
ban cars because 15,000 fatal accidents occur per year
ban bridges because people jump off of them

what else can we legislate out of existence?
