I am not a fan of guns but this is how I see the situation in the US:

- Guns are and have always been part of your culture. The amount of abuses by legal gun owners are few and far between.

- Criminals will obtain a gun by any means necessary, regardless of current or future laws.

- Prohibition creates an underground market, no matter what the comoddity.

In the UK, where guns are not in our culture, the playing field is not that different. The differences pretty much end with the culture, not the uses. If you want a gun bad, you can get one. A black market exists and therefore the criminal is free to arm himself.

So is essence, gun control will not stop criminal use of guns, only make it hard for the enthusiast.

Blimey, and I really don't rate guns either. What came over me?

Reality?

Don't push me, cannon stroker. 😉

How does banning semi-auto guns restrict your civil rights. Does the right to own a gun mean the right to own any gun, no matter how powerful? In that case, it should be legal for you to own a rocket launcher also.

If you want to make guns useless, tax the hell out of bullets. Make it like $10 per bullet. I guarantee there will be less guns.

Just like there is with cigarettes, right?

Please, the only thing a higher tax causes is a black market.

The pain caused to real Illinoisan's because Chicago is within the borders of the state is unbounded.

I am sick and tired of the f@ck Daley acting like he has some sort of state office. Now he has a lap dog in place as governor. It doesn't bode well for us.

Oh yay! Someone else who has fallen for the press buzzwords! Semi-auto has been perverted by the press. Any gun that can store more than one bullet/shell at a time without needing the operator to physically push, slide, or pump the gun is considered "semi-auto".

This IS NOT A BAD THING. Most hunting rifles and shotguns used today are what would be considered "semi-auto". The 20 gauge semi automatic that is cased in the closet for deer hunting would be banned. The 12 guage Mossberg that my father uses for pheasant and quail hunting would be banned. The .22 cal rifle with the 13 bullet barrel storage that we used for squirrel hunting would be banned.

It's a buzzword that the media cooked up and anybody with half an ouce of reasoning knows it's a crock of sh!t.

You don't know anything about guns do you?

All I have to say is that the day that somebody shows up at my front door to take my weapons away is the day they get it in the middle of their forehead. And I'm sure there are millions of people who feel this way.

That's no way to talk to someone stroking his cannon. 😉

Now this statement illustrates the ignorance the gun-grabbers prey upon.

Semi-auto fiurearms are no more powerful than bolt action firearms. Semi-auto is much like a revolver, as in you don't have to manipulate the action in between shots. The mechanics of the firearm do it for you and load another round into the chamber.

And the Second Amendment militia clause means that the citizen militia is to be armed with weapons similar to that which is standard issue to a common infantry man. This, today, means a semi-auto or select fire rifle and side arm.

Moreover, the word ARMS in the Second Amendment means personal arms. They had a separate word for cannons and such... it was called "ordnance."

Now if only ignorant people could not vote, we would not have this problem. It's sad that someone who is completely ignorant about the way things are or even current events should carry the same weight votewise that someone who is extremely intelligent and up to date.

Isn't that why we have the Electoral College?

Illinois just got worse. Sigh. We are going the way of California. Time to write my rep and tell him that I do not agree with this at all.

That's what you are supposed to do, and get everyone you can to write their reps.

Though, am i the only one that see's it as if the government(City,State and National) keep restricting our freedoms and rights, that we may have a CW2 on our hands. At least to change our for of government to one that actually works, and doesn't have a person that doesn't like the constitution, so they try to ratify it.

They are pretty much at the mercy of whoever their district voted for though.
