Starte pistols can not fire standard rounds so what do they fire and why are they not lethal?

I blew him up and took his place. This week I'll be detonating about 50 or so landmines with shape charges. Should be fun times.

Have you ever seen a starter pistol? Imagine a revolver with a cylinder that's blocked off at the end (ie., you can load a round, but there's no exit toward the barrel). They fire the same blank rounds any regular gun would use, but there's no discharge of gas through the barrel. Admittedly, that's only seeing one starter pistol, but I suspect they're all rather similar.

I remember in the '80s when a TV star killed himself by putting a real gun with blanks to his temple and firing. The expelled gases from the round caused enough overpressure to kill him. Dumbass. Wouldn't happen with a starter pistol, but they don't look very realistic.
