What should happen to this guy? Let him go with a warning, or send him to prison?

A Buffalo, N.Y. community activist who is well known locally for pushing for a highly restrictive 2013 gun control law has been arrested for — wait for it — carrying a gun illegally at a public elementary school.

He was a well-known face in the movement for the SAFE Act, the state law that made carrying a gun on school property a felony.

I am thinking since he pushed for the law he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That is 4 years in prison for each charge, so a total of 8 years, and no early release.

I think it's hilarious that the usual gun-grabbers are now trying to adopt the "good guy with a gun" strategy when it involves one of their own. And his story changes multiple times between the arrest and his arraignment.

Arraignment story.

So did he think it was ok to have the gun there, or did he forget he had it? Because he's the one that campaigned to make it a felony. And if he forgot he had it, what kind of "good guy with a gun" is he? He also sounds like he has badge envy, from all his "patrolling."

Just tase him to death without a trial, bro. The jails are way too full as it is with evil "law breakers" who dare to jay walk and grow vegetables in their front yards.

So Americans are not for 2nd amendment rights any more? Why does your stance change on a issue because of the person it was applied to? Very odd supportive behaviour.

Yep.

But it doesn't have to do with zero tolerance. If he doesn't know the law, then he shouldnt own let alone carry a gun.

He needs to be charged. The fact he says he forgot it is in fact all the more reason. It will help educated him on the stupidity of gun-free zones.

Well well another lefty not doing as they instruct. I say let him spend some time in a jail cell. This is the law he wanted, now he can experience it in all its glory.

I think they should let him plead to a misdemeanor. It seems like a stupid mistake. But I think we hand out felonies too freely in general.

This was a misdemeanor crime before this guy campaigned to make it a felony. He is singularly responsible for the SAFE act passing in New York.
