Damn, couldn't find scene in Highlander movie where the survivalist guy's in the hospital being interrogated by the cop and starts screaming about all the GD guns he has and he still can't defend himself.

Exactly which guns would that be? Because way over 99.9% of the dreaded AR-15s in civilian hands are used legally and safely. According to the FBI, between 2007 and 2017, all rifles (not just the dreaded AR-15) accounted for between 2-4% of all homicides. So, on a list of which tools murders are using to practice their craft, rifles are barely a blip, and assault rifles are only a small fraction of that blip.

The AR-15 is the most popular single rifle platform in America. It is used by lawful gun owners for lawful hunting, sport and target shooting purposes, and is a damn good tool for protecting your home and family with, and only misused in very rare instances. Lawful semi-auto rifle owners should not be turned into criminals because of the actions of a few criminal/evil/sick individuals. Just like banning motorcycle would be an inappropriate response to someone escaping from the scene of a crime on one. Or trying to ban automobiles to stop drunk driving.

And even if we agreed that a civilian can only own what's on your list, how would we actually force criminals and murders to obey that restriction? The reality is we can't, so such a ban would only serve to disarm the lawful.

That's just dimwitted. It's not like I'd be stocking gold, just things to survive with. Things others (yourself perhaps?) also have but no means of protecting yourself. As I've grown tired of this, I'd prefer to have law enforcement to protect me and my loved ones. I would also like a backup plan. You know, generators during a prolonged power outage type thing? Glad I'm not your wife or kid who depends on you for protection.

Your rhetoric sounds like Rush Area 51 because they can't get us all. Sure there is interesting stuff there to be sure, but trust me they'd blow everyone up. I don't even have alien tech, you really think they'd rush my place when they could rush other places?
 
And it's not a video game where zombies are attracted by noise. People hearing gunshots are going to run away from that noise.

Wonder which house the rioters and looters would attack. See my post above about the armed Korean merchants vs. the unarmed ones. What was the result between the two groups vs. looters/rioters during the LA Rodney King riot? Funny how those armed Korean merchants did not run out ammo even they shot at the rioters and looters.

I interviewed lots of advocates on both sides of the gun debate during my career as a newspaper photojournalist in the Los Angeles area. Being an ethical journalist I NEVER voice my personal opinions to someone I'm interviewing, or to anyone else really since I need to maintain my objective credibility. And I try not to let my personal beliefs and experiences color my reporting in any way.

That said, one of the goals of an interviewer is to put the subject at ease and get them speaking frankly and truthfully. Most anti-gun advocates were very open that their ultimate goal was the eradication of all firearms in civilian ownership. And most of them acknowledged that it would take many years and have to be accomplished step by step.

For them, whatever the gun control measure of the day they were promoting, they knew a complete ban was the ultimate goal. And I believe that is the case for most of the anti-gun politicians and advocates today.

Well, if Mad Max times really do happen, which I doubt they ever will, then all the anti-gun folks will be glad they refused to arm themselves.

Personally, self-defense is a very tertiary reason I own guns. It's more of a side benefit.
