GummyJar on Droid X taking forever to first boot

As the title says, my phone has been stuck on the booting animation for well over 20 minutes. The animation hasn't frozen and is going fine, but nothing is happening at all.

Is this normal, if not, is it safe to just yank the battery and reflash?

20 minutes? Try going back into recovery and clearing cache and data and rebooting.

If not you'll have to SBF.

Well color me confused, I battery pulled, and then booted into recovery and formatted.

I rebooted and then GummyJar started up in 30 seconds.

What the hell happened.

The ROM is a beast though, I can't believe how fast it flies.

Does this rom remove motoblur? What exactly does this rom do?

Also if I make a nandroid backup of my OS now (stock everything) and install this ROM can I just use the Nandroid backup to go back to stock?

You can make a nandroid if you are on the same android version as what you are trying to install. I think .320 and .340 are compatible, but if you had an older version (.315?) and you tried to update to .320/.340 and failed, a nandroid would not work and you'd freeze on next bootup.

There are quite a few roms that remove all blur. I'm currently using Fission and quite happy. When I was updating my kernel and baseband and everything else to get to .340 I had to SBF and use the phone stock with blur for a few minutes. It was very, very slow and ridiculously bloated.

Why does the X get better ROM's? We have lame sounding ones like Cyanogen. What kind of stupid name is that? ChevyNo1WTFDDWRT. Lame.

GummyJar? Sounds yummy.
Fission? Flippin sweet.

^ I think he is trying to rub in that we cant use full blown custom roms like Cyanogen due to the Efuse.

http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-roms/14078-rom-gummyjar-2-0-droid-done-right-12-21-a.html

Rom removes motoblur, remakes everything from source.

It is ridiculously fast.

And I'm pretty sure the answer is yes

I downloaded a zipfile but there is no update.zip in there, only an update folder, do I need to make a zip out of it?

edit: do right in the OP "find and select DX/D2_GummyJAR-X.X.zip"

I am running on the latest official OTA rom, I just did a nandroid last night, and I have text message backup app. But how do I backup my other apps?

I have aCar and I been keeping records in it would suck to loose em. I know Titanum backup only backups the app but not the data.

oh, Titanium backup worked, why did that guy say on the forum that it does not backup data. lol

I only restored data to a few apps that I needed it to, reinstalling all the others.

I read you do not want to do a batch restore since you will/might of backed up blur or blur files and installing blur on a blurless rom is asking for trouble.

I see some themes have the battery % in the battery icon, anyway just to get that alone without a theme?

No, you'll need a theme for that. Sometimes the ROM makes will include a simple "theme" with just the % battery. Fission does this but I'm not sure about others.

I tried out Fission last night and I was impressed with the speed, however I was unimpressed with the minor inconveniences like:

No GPS
No keyboard themes or layouts would work for me
Lack of flash

Those three things led me to go back to base Moto w/Blur. But I couldn't hide the fact that the ROM was blazing fast and was brilliantly made. I really liked what the did, but until it fixes those things I'll stick to stock.

GPS works fine for me, as do all the themes.

Flash can be downloaded from the market.

Did you follow the instructions on the site? You have to wipe cache and data *and* do a factory reset. This clears everything and starts fresh and I have never had any problems.

GummyJar has been great so far. I have really lost nothing.

Is it just me or does the Camera seem to be worse in low light situations. I think they need to work on the Camera a bit more because it still doens't feel complete.

But other than that, absolutely no issues.

Yeah. I kinda hope he fixes the camera, but I just love how fast everything is. There is zero delay in everything.

Currently I'm trying to figure out a painless way to get the old boot animation onto the ROM without having to reflash, but it seems that it would be the easiest way without mucking about with adb.

^ heh

So I been having just one simple issue. It happens to my Bro on the OTA firmware, but not as much.

The phone will seem like its dead. None of the buttons work. You can hold the power button and nothing will happen. Then with in 30sec or so the screen it turn on like nothing happened.

This has happened to me 3 times so far. And I had this problem once back on the original 2.1 firmware.

So I dont know what is up with this and the latest firmware but meh.
