Will that require a new mobo chipset or will it remain the X58?

It'll work in current X58's, you'll need a Bios flash though.

That'd make an incredible rendering machine or encoding machine, not to mention a fantastic host system for many virtual machines. It's too bad there will not be 'enthusiast pricing' for these chips. but who knows?

Check out JC's post on page 3, it failed to boot in an X58 board.

Sign me up for two, as soon as they reach the $200 price point.

From reported Intel 'charts' the Gulftown i9 is supposed to run just dandy on x58 - but clearly JC was on a s1366 55xx server/workstation board.

But I thought historically "Xxxxtown" was always used for Xeon procs, anyway so I don't really know ...

Well, then let me start lookin for a 1366 mobo!!!

Can I get out of this, please?

In the last 4 or 5 months Fuad has come out and said that i9 'Gulftown' will work with s1366 and someone made a chart that listed columns for i3, i5, i7 and i9. This chart was more like a spreadsheet and did not have an Intel logo on it .

I found it

I don't know if an i9 Gulftown will work with a current x58 board or not with a BIOS update.

(That's it. I'm outa here. Don't forget to tip your waitresses ...)

if that tylersberg X58 had problems running gulftown, a regular X58 will have the same problems.

you will need a bios update.

yeah XS is down.

Its by JC, so its valid.

As i said JC makes me even look like a normal user.

What was the OMGWTFBBQ is his post on having 24 usable threads. 6 cores with 2 hyper threading = 12 threads each cpu. He had a DP system which gave out 24 threads.

Dmens is probably staying VERY VERY FAR away from this thread as what JC did was break MAJOR MAJOR NDA. :p

But it was all for us, so i definitely give him a beer!

Now when does my EE Gulftown come in....

Maybe i'll get it b4 anand, and chris like i did with my 975. :p

But i'll let u know as soon as i have my hands on one.

I have a Classy and a P6T to test it on. But i kinda think if your gonna get a 1500 dollar processor, most likely you will probably be on a classy or a Giggy which so far have no issues running Xeon's.

Problem is how will it handle the 5th and 6th core.

Windows7 will also be kinda funny with 12 workable threads.

It will be interesting to see which is faster...the 6 core Intel Gulftown or the 12 core AMD Magny Cours...

JC always posts the latest chips and architectures, how does he keep on getting access to all the new stuff when he's breaking NDA every time?

Its simple, he doesn't break the NDA. He is an authorized (sanctioned) leak. There is a reason he is silly coy about some things in his "leaks" (soooo selective about what he actually leaks) while at the same time he acts like he is some out of control NDA violating renegade to maintain the whole street cred thing. And it works, over and over again.
