Guitar solos - Fast but not insanely difficult - any ideas?

Anyone have any suggestions for decent fast solos that aren't too difficult. I'm mostly a rhythm man and I can read chords great but I'm venturing into the realm of faster solos. However I get frustrated b/c I can't always wail as hard and fast as I like, like trying to play the intro solo to "Black Betty" by Ram Jam. Anyone have any suggestions for faster solos to get going on?

Actually if you have any mp3s of yourself playing intos, solos, etc., I think it would be cool to share them here. I'm finishing up a couple where I play the bass riff then loop it through Guitar Tracks/Studio software. Then lay the main rhythm on top of it. I need a drum machine to complete it though. Anyway post away guys.

Check out some Randy Rhodes solo work on Mr Crowley by Ozzy. Very basic solo structure but very fast. There are a ton of different ones, that's a good one to start learning shredding

TheNinja, how long did it take you before you felt proficient at the guitar? In other words when you could play a few songs and sound decent? I ask because my dad has several guitars and amps and I'm thinking of borrowing one and learning to play. It's something I've always wanted to do.

Seriously, why not go for something stylish like Yellowledbetter or some Dire Straits? That would develop your chops too.

Or go for something like Limelight.

Thanks for the ideas so far everyone. I love Metallica btw and I can hum and play air guitar on every song and solo like a friggin' mad man!

CorpRec - I'll check some Randy Rhoades out, like Crazy Train? I can get that whole song and even a little of the solo where it is a lot of tapping but that last fast run before he finishes off the solo is too much for me.

PanzerIV - It's hard for me to remember exactly b/c I've change styles a lot, but I'd say pick up a guitar. Then learn some chords, but also toss in some tabs to keep it fun.

MrChad - Yes of course I can wail hard, if I even look at a guitar it plays a sound so awesome you would probably poop your pants a little....this thread is for other people's benefit....ya that's it.

Being a huge Satriani and Vai fan, the majority of the stuff I play well are instrumetal solos. I could do Satriani covers, but mostly rely on backing tracks, as my buds rarely break out their equipment to jam.

i'll second the slash suggestion. compared to a lot of guitarists, he plays very slow and easy stuff. but his expression is wonderful, and he says more in those notes than most guitarists can with their 5 billion-note solos.

Honestly, when I started teaching myself lead, I'd just turn on ANYTHING and sit there and try to come up with something to go along with it. Dido, Danzig's Black Aria, Yanni, whatever, just as long as it was music.
