Guitar recommendations

My gf has expressed interest in learning how to play an instrument. She' mentioned both the piano and guitar and we've spoke about how fun it would be to one day play along with me on drums. Anyways, I'm not that familiar with guitars, but can anyone recommend a nice acoustic/acoustic-electric for her to start out with? My brother has a Takamine that seems very nice and has served him well.

If she's really serious about the guitar, get the best one you can afford.

I didn't want to spend a lot because I'm not sure how serious she is. The worst that can happen is that I have a guitar that I can mess around on. Was planning on $300-400 for now.

Takamine makes a rather nice guitar. Kinda spendy (depending in your deep pockets ATOT budget). Ovation, probably a step above/same level. You can find learner style Ovations at pawn shops all over for less than $400.

I personally like the sound of Gretsch acoustics. They are really solid guitars. My aunt who is a music teacher and a professional player swears by her "Gretschen".

The other day I heard a "band" at the bar that was no more than a drummer and a Singer/Pianist. Good stuff, a little out there for my style, but they were definitely very good. Piano takes some getting used to, but it is definitely the "gateway" to other music instruments.
