guitar recommendations?

gorcorps

aka Brandon
Well I've been debating getting another guitar. Already have an acoustic and a decent electric, but wanted a better electric. I started to figure why dump money into another 6-string when I can get a 7 and have something new? So what recommendations do people have for 7-stringers? Max price 1 grand, and preferably around $700.

I've noticed that all the 7 stringers in this price range are either black or white, no fun colors. That sucks, as I want something a little more distinct.

Well I haven't heard of many famous 7-string players, e.g. santana, hendrix were all six string players. Just buy a better six string.

So does Joe Satriani (quite famous) and Unearth (not famous, but I like them). The thing is the 7 string IS a 6 string with one extra. I'm not losing anything getting a 7.

I never liked 7 string guitars. They just don't 'feel' right. But most 7 string players seem to use Ibanez.

Of course it doesn't "Feel" right---it's got an extra string!!! 🙂

Nearly all manufacturers will make a 7 string version of most of their models. The 7th string is usually tuned to B and is good for adding extra bass lines to your chords (for instance, use the low C in a C chord instead of the C on the second string).

Gibson, Fender, ESP, Ibenez, PRS all most 7 string guitars. They're frequently used with alternate tunings as well. I used to love playing slide on a 7 string tuned to G because of the extra bassy notes I could use to augment the higher octave notes.

It takes some getting used to, but they are fun, and it forces you to think of notes instead of patterns when you're playing.

I play mostly blues and jazz and I can see how the 7th string would help. I have small hands though and it is just so hard for me to use them (and eat whoppers).

A lot of people thumb the 7th string.

Personally I own a 7 string ESP Stef Carpenter (deftones) model. I freaking love it. I'm bias though..I have 2 other ESP guitars 😀

I have no interest in a 7 string. If I master the 6th maybe then.. However I do own 3 esp guitars and they are great so a 7 string by them would be a good investment.
