Guitar players

Thinking about buying myself a guitar this christmas and start playing. I've been playing drums for 10 years and always wanted to start with the guitar. So I think I'm going to do it this year... what do you recommend for a beginner?

did you know that there have already been like 500 posts asking this very same question already? and they've all been made within this month...

I'll recommend a Yamaha, as I always do. Get an acoustic.
Otherwise, get an electric.
Practice, practice, practice.

Squier '51 - $149

I've been playing for about 10 years and I have quite a few nice guitars, and I bought a '51. It's a really good guitar, especially for the money.

I like electric guitars myself, though I suck at playing still.

Go to a guitar store (not Walmart or Best Buy), and strum a few of the guitars in your price range. Pick one that you think a) sounds good, b) feels good, and c) looks good.

Best way to go, imho.

"A" does not really work for a beginner though😉

I'd say spends the extra 1k and get the 52 Tele Resisue😉

Gibson, I can assure you it won't be a gibson. 😀

Your the first to not make a Hackers reference. For that, I thank you (Gibson in my name does refer to the guitar, not hacking the Gibson). 😛

BTW, what is your price range?

True, though I figured since he played drums he might have been around some guitar players, and have an idea of what to listen for 😛

You must have gotten lucky and gotten one of the good Squiers 😛
You played it before you bought it, I assume?

Few hundred, I was wanting an acoustic for now....

OK, then just find an acoustic with a solid top. I know Washburn has a $200 one, but I never tried it. I'll be selling one soon (I think its a solid top.....I bought it b/c I needed a guitar for my guitar class and my guitar did not come in the mail yet, so i bought it but lost the receipt), but I have to go back home to get it.

Thanks guitar for the links... now, what would you recommend for a beginner? 😛 Not really sure if I want to spend $500 on my first guitar.

get a rogue. my brother bought one to noodle with, and i was surprised with how good it sounded for the price. its not a martin, but its perfect for a beginner.

The Washburn D30S, or the Epi EJ-200 if you can go a little more $$. The Epi is a copy of the famous Gibson J-200 jumbo body style, and has unmatched sound, but its big

Actually, I ordered if from MF. 45-day return policy, but it was fine. No need to return it. Over on Harmony Central's guitar forums, they love these things and I see why. It's pretty good in build quality and decent in electronics. Cheap because they are built in Indonesia.

For Acoustics, Washburn D10 series get very good reviews for about $300. The above Yamaha is a nice choice as well.
