Guitar players: Good heavy pedal?

I am looking for a good first pedal. One that will sound good heavy and on leads with bends and all that wanky stuff. What's a good start?

EDIT: :s/petal/pedal/g

HEH...love the grammar/spelling police :D

Anyway, I use Digitech's GNX3 for all my effects. It's an all-in-one effects system and the pedal on it is pretty heavy in sound and build quality...one of their stand alone units might be what you're looking for. Digi makes good stuff.

Other than that, try Morley or Jim Dunlop stuff. Not sure if you mean heavy as in sound or heavy as in build quality, so I'm giving a little of both.

I've used:

DOD - Death Metal -- good price, great for heavy stuff, didn't like the fact that I couldn't adjust the distortion level. It was like it was cranked on 10 and the knob was torn off

Marshall Jackhammer - more expensive, I love it though. It has a lot of differnet setting you can get out of it, from heavy metal, to blues, to light solo distortion.

Haven't tried the Boss pedal but they are usually pretty good. I'd recommend trying the Boss Metal Zone II I believe it is called.

i find the dod pedals to sound a little fakey and have too much high end... i guess i'd try a metal zone. unfortuantly, no pedal can match a decent amp, and what sounds "heavy" for rhythm playing is often a very poor choice for lead tone. but the metal zone is a good choice if you can't get a big amp.

edit: i haven't tried the marshall pedals, as i have marshall amps and therefore have no need for a simulation of the real deal, but i've heard good things about them, so i'd check them out if i were you.

I've heard some danelectro pedals that sounded good, but none of their heavy ones. The wah wah and reverbs are nice though. Worth checking out their heavy stuff I'd say.
