I really dislike GHWT compared to RB but I can't pass on old school Metallica.

This game is why I debated so long over which to buy... I'd rather have Rock Band, but Metallica is my favorite band. In the end I decided against not buying the full band kit for either. Maybe I'll just pick up a GH drum set... do they sell them separately yet?

Heh, yep.. I was just telling my carpool buddy (and fellow former plastic band member) that I think I am done with the whole guitar hero thing.

AIC song is tempting to check out though.. Since Metallica is involved, maybe I'll illegally download the game once it comes out

Music games have jumped the shark. I was hugely into GH2, liked GH3, loved Rock Band and thought Rock Band 2 was fun, but nothing new. But now, it's gotten way past old and stale. They're releasing crappy "expansions" with a focus on a particular band set. Even Rock Band is doing this now.

Good thing my original Rock Band instruments are almost completely broken, so I don't have an excuse to buy any of these blatant cash-ins.

Almost. I rarely play. I bought the SRV album for RB cuz I love some SRV and I haven't even really played it much but I'll get to it and I'll get to Metallica.

They just started selling them seperately. If you preorder the game you get a free bass pedal so you can use double bass on the ghwt set. I don't even have gh drums though.

I'd gladly pay 60 bucks for nothing but metallica songs with good audio quality.
unless something has changed since their last album, you may have to look elsewhere for good audio quality 😉

Well the GH release WAS the one with good quality. The CD was horrible.

Activision is diluting the entire genre by releasing so many versions: Greatest hits, Metallica, Aerosmith, 80's and rumors of other bands are just simply "cash-ins". I really don't think it's fair to compare all of those to one separate Beatles RB game.

In addition, the gameplay mechanics of rhythm games can't really have anything "new." They are all basically the same type of gameplay.

If you buy RB2 and nothing else, of course it will get stale as you'd have played the songs multiple times over. The fun is in the DLC and playing with other people. When the No Doubt pack came out we literally played for hours as the girls all had no trouble wanting to sing any song, and everyone else was having fun playing the drums and guitar. We're having another get together this weekend to play through all of the DLC that's been released since then, and I know it'll be a blast.

any word on a ps3 demo?

If one does come, it won't be until next Thursday at the earliest.

ok cool, im not too worried. i pre-ordered the game. i wouldnt have even bothered with GH if it wasnt for metallica.

I'm holding off on getting this until I know for sure the Mastodon and Kyuss songs are originals and not covers. Being able to play a real version of Demon Cleaner is the best fucking thing ever. I don't really care about the metallica songs since the riffs are so easy and the solos are impossible and you can just save your star power to beat the solos.

i don't have any GH or RB games for my PS3 and this will probably be the one i buy. I should have picked up GH:WT for $40 at CC when it was going out of business just to get the equipment though

*cough*AC/DC*cough*

I downloaded the demo and tried. It was fun playing Sad But True, but meh. This is another "rent at best" for me, just like Aerosmith.

Really, this should have just been a DLC pack...or at least, of the Metallica songs. And for Rock Band, not GH! 😉

The AC/DC pack is importable into Rock Band, basically it's just DLC you have to buy a code for. I never even used the disk. No word yet on whether the Beatles will be importable, but I hope so. The "Rock Band as a platform" strategy is one of the reasons Rock Band is much better than GH:WT.

That is 100% your opinion. If I just wanted a drinking game to play with my buddies then yeah RB is better. If I wanted a fully fleshed out single player game that provides a challenge and a ton of unlockables then GHWT is the way to go. Making broad generalizations like you did is what causes your foot to find it's way into your mouth in social settings.

Anyhow, I recommend you all boycott this new game for GH anyways, which should be easy enough for the RB fanboy. And before you ask, I have both.
