Guitar Hero III for the Wii or PC?

I want to get a copy of Guitar Hero III, and I can get it for ether the Wii or PC. Welll maybe just the PC, seeing as all the stores around me have been sold out of the Wii version for quite a while 🙁 But besides that, does ether version have any features that the other doesn't? Also I know the Wii version retails for $90, but I'm yet to see a retail version for the PC, so does anyone know how much that one retails for? The PC probably has better graphics I'm willing to bet, and I'm 99% sure I could run it @ 1920x1200 with everything maxed. Any thoughts or inputs?

Yeah, the Wii version has a bug where it only plays in mono- might want to wait on that one. A patch/new version is expected, but no word of when.

Plus it's impossible to find.

The PC version has some ridiculous requirements something like a Geforce 8800gt. I'd also guess more people have bought the Wii version so if you want to to play online there would be more people. Of course there's the whole mono thing and the general lack of availability.

This game stutters and hiccups on my system listed in my sig. Even at at the lowest res and all tweaks off this pc version will stutter here and there and make you miss notes. I have it for the 360 and it plays perfect, pc version with the 360 guitar, ug, lets just say I am glad I just got the PC game without another guitar for cheap. I wanted it so I can play on my laptop on my couch but if it doesnt play well on my main PC it sure as hell wont play on my laptop.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be getting it for the Wii. Will Nintendo have game patches available online that you can download, or would I have to wait for a 2nd hard copy of the game to be released that already has the patch integrated?

Patching really probably isn't an option since the Wii only has 512 megs of storage. Disc replacement is the more likely solution assuming they do something about it. Activision hasn't made any statements about it yet and all the tech support request say is they've identified the issue and are working on it.

Good luck on finding it 🙂

It runs smoothly on my E6600 and 1950Pro but still, the requirements are plain ridiculous. Plus I run it 1440x900 at highest detail and it still doesn't look that good. Really awful port. Get it for the Wii, especially if you have a big HDTV and nice surround sound system.... oh wait... 😛

I could have sworn GameSpot said that the Wii version doesn't support DLC, so if that's something you're going to want to spend extra money on, you'd be out of luck with the Wii version.

Edit: Just saw an earlier thread that the Wii does get GHIII DLC, which makes my post stupid. 🙂 Move along, nothing to see here! Just pretend this never happened.

Doesn't look like Wii DLC is available yet, but is coming in the new year.

If its a bugfix, the patch shouldnt be more than a few kB at most. The bigger question is whether one can actually patch DVD based games on the Wii - thats yet to be done yet.

And 512mb isnt a lot, but its plenty for some amount of DLC. Each song comes out to about 20mb. Theres room for a few downloads there. It seems to be more logistical issue because the only DLC really available now is standalone VC games and channels. The infrastructure to support DLC just isnt there yet.

In theory it could be done but I believe I read somewhere that Nintendo is against the idea of allowing patches to be put in place on systems. Of course I couldn't find a link for that. As for DLC, I'm thinking it'll be part of the Wiiware stuff they're implementing. Excite Truck can play mp3s of SD cards so that part of DLC is already possible.

Well, the complaining over the mono sound seems to have died down somewhat, so I doubt there will be any more said on the issue until after xmas. Its a deal breaker for many, but quite a few people wont notice in the first place. I think a disc trade-in is far more likely than a patch at this point.

Anyway, to answer the OP: Neither. Both are broken. Wii is mono only, which is a joke for a music game. PC version is a dirty, ugly abortion of a port that requires a supercomputer to render what amounts to little more than 5 columns of circles and a silly backdrop that youll never notice during play, and is the PC really where you want to play it?

Get the PS2, 360 or PS3 version if possible. If not, wait for them to fix the Wii version.
