Can being good at GH translate into being able to play the guitar?

Id like to know this too, cuz from that video the kid is just mashing around as fast as he can, he is totally NOT playing the song... I mean, if it were a real guitar of c

Guitar players didnt beat the game because they didnt dedicate themselves, I bet anyone who spends a few days at it can master it easily, like every other game

Now hand over a guitar to that kid and tell him to play an Yngwie Malmsteen solo, maybe in 10 years he can pull it off if lucky

Why can't some people just enjoy others' success? The kid is for real, he has other vids on YouTube, etc.

Not directly. You need to learn to read music, get the rythym and beats down, etc. And six strings on a fret board is a bit different than the GT controller. But the kid obviously has the dexterity. Some day this kid will have to fight the chicks off with a stick. I f'n called it.

Nope, the only thing that is accurate in GH is strumming, and even that isn't true to life. Guitars involve a lot of finger movement, IE holding different strings and sliding up and down the guitar. GH involves pushing the yellow button and hitting th strum at the right time.

The two are just completely unrelated when it comes down to memorization. Its almost like saying "Can Dance dance revolution make me into an excellent dancer?" or better yet, can playing starwars games teach me how to use the force?

Well the speed that this kid can move his fingers would probably allow him to get pretty darn good at sweep picking.

So no the two don't relate directly but i think since the basics are similar and since both train finger movement it could help.

AWESOME!

I love how the kid looks back during the pauses and smiles. He's like "OWNED BITCHES!!!"

I bet if that child would only spend as much time playing a real musical instrument, he would be the next fucking Jimmy Paige.

Like a real guitar you don't have to strum to make notes. hammer ons and pull offs. Watch eddie van halen.

Well, at least you played it before you made that judgment. It's not for everyone.

Ah! I must practice these "hammer ons" and "pull offs" in guitar hero. I thought I could get away with not doing them, but I now see that's impossible. :(

He'd be another poor musician? Yeah, great goal. How about he just enjoys his youth and then studies to be a doctor. Yeah, I think that's a better plan.

meh, same thing happens when a kid spends hours practicing on a real musical instrument, but people seem to appreciate this more for some reason... filthy uncultured masses :p

Actually, the guitar hero version is harder. Guitarists who can play a song perfectly on the real thing cant on guitar hero.

Am I missing the sarcasm here?

No, he speaks the truth.

I wouldn't say that it's not possible, because I've perfected almost all the songs on easy and a number on medium, but for the most part I get 5 stars by missing only a note or two.

However, I find hard to be easier than medium because the timing is much closer to the actual song. I can't say much for expert because I can't get past the solo of Rock and Roll All Night. 76% every time. :(

yeah and race car drivers some how are not the best at gran tourismo. Weird how that works.

Actually, race car drivers are incredibly good at racing games, because they are simulations. You apparently have not talked to anyone that plays the guitar and has played the game.

You are spot on, despite the fact that 2 of my roommates play guitar and they have like 6 versions of guitar hero, i have never talked to anyone who plays guitar and guitar hero...

In short, happiness > money

now, some might say that that's impossible, but Van Halen sure as hell wasn't poor.

You're right, he does look happy. :) If you don't mind, I'll stick with the doctor plan. ;)

I thought the same thing until I actually tried it myself. It's a lot of fun. Especially with a group of friends.

Ignorance FTL!

Because smiling sure as hell isn't an indication of happiness, right? Don't let outer appearances fool you.

I hope the best for your life; if you have those kind of values, you're going to need it.

I can vouch for this. I can play a number of the songs and solos from a lot of the songs on GH2/GH3/Rock Band on a real guitar and the songs on the video game at Expert sometimes beat my ass.

I get so frustrated.. :D

I've played it and I didn't find it that fun. I play guitar in real life (not particularly well, but that's beside the point). It's really nothing like playing guitar. You have 4 buttons to push in tandem with the strum bar thing, while on real guitar you have strings and frets that can be played in an unimaginable number of ways.

Props to the kid for enjoying it, but I've never been able to get into them either. Just don't stimulate the right bundles of neurons in my brain.

I don't think anyone in this thread was trying to imply that GH skills translated into real guitar skills or vice-versa. If you don't look at this game as a guitar simulation, maybe you can realize that the kid just has some crazy dexterity, end of story.
