Guitar guys! RG450 pickup upgrade. Recommendations?

Next question. What is the "best" way to refinish a guitar? My brother has one, and is just giving it to me. He don't wanna put any time into it.

This isnt the guitar, but its the same exact thing.

The best way is to remove the old finish completely, then spray on several thin coats of paint. You have to disassemle the guitar as much as possible before you start. Finish with a few coats if clear coat and you're done.

The RG has been here about a week now...sounds good...and all that "stuff" lol. Anyway, the INF3/4 pickups are fine...but want something with a little more.

Gonna be going with a speaker cab and head in about a month, so which pickups would you "electric guitar players" recommend?

I know Dimarzio's are good as is Seymour Duncans.

All the forums I have checked about this, seems to recommend the DiMarzios.

Thoughts ?

Depends on the sound you're looking for really. And that's extremely personal. Nobody can tell you that to YOU, such and such pickup sounds better. They can and do drastically affect how your entire setup sounds but what your preferences are, it's just not possible to tell you. It's like asking if Marshall is better than Mesa Boogie or if you should just stick with a classic Fender amp. Theyre all awesome in their own right. Depends on what YOU want.

I personally love the Duncan JB, but that's too bassy and boomy for most people. (Exactly why I like it. Thunderous chugging riffs). I'm not a fan of Dimarzios but again, it all depends on your setup and your personal style.

I think it's something to worry about MUCH later, for you. I wouldn't recommend you put too much effort into changing pickups now. I sold most of my gear and the only guitar I have left is a cheap one, wasnt worth it for me to keep the rest since I dont play out anymore. It has GFS (cheap indie guitar company) pickups in it it and I think they sound great. No need to go crazy overthingking what pickups you have in yours unless they arent wax potted and feed back like crazy.

I really like my EMGs. But, it really comes down to personal preference about the sound.


Also, I don't know if you've ever used a Les Paul, but they are stupid heavy for no reason IMO. I love the body style, but they just weigh too much.

Dense wood = sustain. That's why a Les Paul is a Les Paul

The newer ones are chambered now as they found you can get the same sustain by taking out sections of the interior, shaving a couple of pounds off of the weight. I use a manly chambered one though.

SPEAKING OF WHICH I'll be posting pics and a review of my newly upgraded Les Paul. I just installed Seymour Duncan's new Whole Lotta Humbuckers, Grover Trophy tuning machines, and got the new Dunlop Echoplex preamp pedal. I did this a couple of weeks ago but there's a lights in my studio/mancave/basement fizzled out and therefore I can't record anything.

If you've been looking for that "You know who..." sound, you'll want to stay tuned 🙂

I love EMGs, too. Nice and chunky but they really retain a lot of clarity under higher gain. Hate the battery, but they do sound good.
