Hey Im need to get a effects board/distortions for my guitar but I really dont have that much experience with them and there for dont know much. Does anyone here have any recomendations or thoughts?


In case you want to know its a parker P-38 guitar.
 
You want a whole processing board when you've never used them?

No.

Get something smaller, a single pedal from BOSS called the Metal Zone. or the Extreme Metal or something which is even more. That is the best distortion pedal I have heard for the money. Do not go out and buy a huge effects processor, you wont know what to do with it.
 
ok mabe I used the wrong word... what I ment was I want a small foot pedel do-jobby. just with some effects systems... sorry. wrote that wrong.

Its been a while since I've played around with or tried out effects pedals. I have a DOD American Metal (I think that's what its called) and a Yamaha Overdrive (for that overdriven tube amp sound), but they are at least 7 years old.

Your amp is also a key component of the setup, pedals can sound different from one guitar/amp to the next. I would find a music store in your area that has a good selection, then bring your amp and guitar in and start plugging pedals into it.

I remember buying a BOSS pedal that I tried-out at the music store, using their amp and guitar, but when I got it home and plugged it into my setup, it sounded different than it did at the store. I exchanged it for the DOD.

Also, pedals have a tendency to be very specialized and give you only one 'sound' in varying levels of attack and decay. I would find something that has a nice range of distortion, from a mellow harmonic to edgy-overdriven stuff.


 
The best warm, harmonic rich, dreamy sound is from the Big Muff. DOD's "grunge" pedal has a good over-the-top sound, but they've sold so many of them you might consider staying away just because every kid on the block already has one.
 
I think I know what you're talking about. You're looking for a multieffects pedal, correct? I think your best bet would be to go with the Korg AX1G. You can pick one up for a hair over $100 and it's got tons of onboard effects, as well as a pedal for wah/talk/volume/etc. I've used one for about two years now, and it's never failed me. Give 'er a shot.

There's so much great stuff out there for guitarists nowadays.
I use a Johnson J-Station. Cost about $149.
It has software that connects the unit to your computer, and looks and sounds like a rack of equipment. No kidding, this is pro stuff. You'll get plenty of great sounding distortion, plus compression, noise gate, reverb,echo, pitch shifting , chorus, flange eq, ect.
The most amazing features are the amplifier and cabinet emulators. Want a boutique tube sound thru four ten inch speakers? Just dial it up.
Has stereo line, S/PDIF, and headphone outputs. There is a footswitch jack, and midi in jack.
$149 bucks, and sounds better than POD IMO.
