Guinness

Mookow

Lifer
After two years in the dorms, next year I'll be in a house (with 4 other guys). So, I can finally have parties will more than 8 people. That means one thing: kegs. I know the prices for a keg of Bud ($60) and Natty ($45). Those prices are after you get your deposit back. Anyway, for my birthday, I want to get a keg of Guinness, but I'm not sure how much it will be. Does anyone know how much a keg of guinness is where they live? Also, what are the prices for kegs of a few other common beers where you live? I want to know that so I can compare, as I am pretty sure state minimum prices vary for kegs.

back at penn state a 1/2 keg of guiness was like $120...BUT, the friggin tap was like 100 bucks as well. (refundable, yes)

be prepared to shell out a LOT of cash man...but it's SOOOO worth it

don't forget you need a completely different tap system to pour Guinness correctly. including two different gases. you can't just use a normal tap. not sure if the liquor stores rent the correct taps and gases for Guinness.

The tap I can borrow from the local Irish American club, where my dad is a trustee. As to the two different gases, I think they only use nitrogen, not nitrogen and CO2, but I can check into that. I would assume nitrogen would use the same setup on a kegerator as CO2, in which case I'm covered, as getting a kegerator is priority #2 for my house. Priority #1: broadband for 5 guys We're looking at a commercial cable line (2Mbit up and down guarunteed), and splitting it with the guys in the other half of the house, who we know. Priority #1 should be figured out in the next few weeks.

Oh, I am prepared to shell out some cash. My housemates have told me they're getting me a keg and some liquor for my birthday, I'm going to ask that they just use the cash from the keg to go into my guinness keg fund, and I'll pay out the difference.

It's around $60 here for a keg. Not of Guinness though, thats just bud I think. I think it is about the same everywhere though.

The previously quoted price of $120 per keg is about right. As is the bit about the tap being spendy.

Hope you have some backup brew on hand as you'll get plenty of "what is this motor oil crap you're trying to pass off as beer!?!?!?" comments.

Sadly, your average beer drinker is pretty stunted when it comes to stouts.

Tsk Tsk... you're making an assumption there. Specifically, you're assuming I'm going to share 😉😀.

Oh.....my bad.

In that case, the tubing and 5 gauge needle for the Guinness mainline will run you an extra $20 or so.😉

Nah. It'll probably run me a full dollar though for all the duct tape necessary to keep a 250lbs Irishman's ankles up on the basement rafters, so that my friends wont have to hold me while I do my keg-stand.

wtf? i had a 6 pack of guiness a few months ago, it was horrible 🙁 why would you want a whole KEG of it?

Coors Light drinkers should not talk bad about "actual" beer

Exactly. Guinness drinkers drink it for the taste (and the effect, too), not just to get wasted.

actually Guinness uses both Nitrogen and CO2. but you can buy them both in the same bottle most places.
