Guinness is the best stout/porter

the only thing that came close was jw dundee porter from a couple of years ago. they've since changed the formula, and doesnt taste as good 🙁

what do u think is = or > Guinness?

I'm a big fan of imperial stouts or bourbon stouts. I've probably drank about 20 that are way better then Guinness. Don't get me wrong, Guinness is great, but it doesn't even come close in flavor to a lot of others.

In my fridge right now I have an Imperial Yeti, Hoppin' Frog B.O.R.I.S. and a 4-pack of bourbon county breakfast stout. I think maybe some Walter Payton stout of some sort too.

I very much dislike Guinness. It just has this taste and feeling of lacking... a lot. Sure it's dark, but it doesn't feel heavy in my mouth, and just has a very boring taste.

An Oatmeal Stout, at least one I tried recently and was a craft beer, was much better.
And Sam Adams's Honey Porter absolutely destroys Guinness.

Guinness tastes drastically different than most other stouts, and certainly than other porters. I feel Guinness goes down smoother than any other beer I've had, its perfect for just relaxing with a beer, but the others have different enough tastes that I don't compare them directly. I like many stouts/porters equally.

There are plenty of microbreweries that not only put out a superior stout, but also a more authentic one. Guiness is the budweiser of the stout world--especially in America. I've heard Irish Guiness is far superior and contains far more alcohol.

Ugh. I can't stand Guiness. Maybe that's because I live in Portland, but hey. Guiness is shit.

No way. It is the best widely available mass produced stout, for sure. But best stout of all? No.

I like Guiness when I'm out with friends, but it really doesn't have much flavour at all. There are many other, better and more flavourful stouts/porters out there, Rogue makes a couple.

Not fan of the shakespear for some reason, but I do like their chocolate stout. And I usually don't like chocolate stouts.

I could name at least 100 stouts and porters that were better than Guinness. Don't get me wrong, I'll drink Guinness; it's an easy drinking beer. But it's like comparing a McDonald's cheeseburger to a prime porterhouse; sure, the cheeseburger is fine, but there's simply no comparison when asked to choose between the two.

The chocolate is awesome as well. TBH, I've had some bad Shakespeare before, but other times it blew my effin mind with its complexity. However, such is the nature of microbrewing.

very much this... it has a thin, watery quality to it.

this. Yeah, that's as much as I can describe it. It feels so empty when drinking it, that it just confuses me.

I've heard many people say getting it in Europe is a far different animal compared to the brew available here in the States, which doesn't make a lick of sense imho.

But as far as people stating it is the Budweiser of Stouts, that makes a lot of sense, because I'd compare it to Budweiser in comparison to the rest of the beer kingdom.
Except in this case, I cannot even fathom drinking it, unlike the Budweiser brews which I can drink but won't sit there and enjoy them like a fine beer, but rather just drink.

Guinness has this burnt taste to it, not to mention feeling thin and watery. Just doesn't combine to be a good Stout. Stouts and Porters, imho, should have a much fuller taste and body.

Aren't you the one that bought that Three Floyd's Dark Lord that one time?

Pretty much my experience as well. I had an oatmeal stout from a very small brewery over the holidays that was absolutely brilliant, but I can't recall the name right now. I'll have to check my list when I get home.

FEH! This is a stout.

I'm a big fan of the Shakespeare Stout. A couple weeks ago I picked up a bottle and a friend of mine asked to try it. She normally hates dark beer, and upon trying it immediately made the "yuck, I hate dark beer!" face. Three seconds later, a smile began to creep across her face, and I saw the spark of dawning comprehension twinkling in her eye; she realized why beer snobs drink the beer they do. Licking her lips, she wrenched the bottle from my hands, and drank deep of the nectar within. This time, there was no bitter beer face, just the exultations of someone who has just experienced beer nirvana. She ended up stealing half my beer that night, but I couldn't complain; another convert to the world of true brewing excellence.

The same thing happened to my girlfriend Saturday when she first tried a draft Moonlight Death and Taxes. I almost had to put her in a headlock to get her to try it, but she eventually found it sublime. God I  Toronado.
