Ebay is hit and miss; Amazon usually has a steady cheap price.

The place in Eye of the North is the Hall of Monuments, which you get access to pretty quickly. There's a total of 50 achievement points to get, however only up to 30 will grant you in-game tangible rewards for Guild Wars 2; after that you will get titles for Guild Wars 2, so it's worth to try and at least get 30. You get 3 automatically for owning EotN, which gives you some nice armor.

There are some guides floating around as to how to maximize your Hall of Monuments. Here is the reward calculator:

Thank you sir!

You can't really solo. You can use hero's and henchmen, but they won't be nearly as helpful as human players. I would recommend finding some people in outposts to play with, or get together a group of friends.

One more thing...can you SOLO in Guild Wars?

If you're wondering whether or not you have to be forced with other players, or take time to try and find a team, then answer is no. However, you do need to have a party to be able to get very far, which you can comprise entirely of NPC mercenaries if you'd like. You can't get very far JUST by yourself.

I'm through the entire Nightfall campaign, and have only brought NPC mercenaries/Heroes with me - I haven't teamed up with other players at all.

I disagree - I've played through the entire game with only hero's and henchmen and they do the job.

I guess you can solo. But you would need to put some thought into your build. Question is though, why would you want to solo an MMO? It's the point of an MMO social interaction?

You can't actually SOLO really; you need to at least have heroes or henchmen, otherwise you'll just get mobbed and killed at later levels. That being said, you don't need to worry about actual OTHER PLAYERS.

For some it might be the social interaction, but to me it's just the type of gameplay and how you can actually communicate to others regarding something rather than play with them. Besides raids or instances, I just went about my own way in most other MMO's; I just enjoyed the game and scenery and then enjoyed bs'ing with people in town. Every once in a while if I noticed someone else wanting to do the same thing I'd group up, but I didn't make it a point to try and get a party.

...not really. you can solo farm many, many bosses through the massive variety of builds and classes, but playing through the full game solo with any kind of standard build is impossible.

There are henchmen you can hire and since Nightfall, there are now Heroes. I believe they recently updated to let you create a full party of your own Heroes, as well.

There are certain team builds that allow you to go through just about anything with a minimum of 4 characters (the 3-nec Sabway build--assuming this is still effective, 2 years later, lol).

You can certainly go through the game with only henchmen or heroes though--esp. heroes.

yep, people can help as they can give you tips and general strategy as you're learning. I found most of them to be largely a nuisance, though. There were tons of people that I liked playing with, of course--and the community was never horrible. But I always found that hero Healers, for example, far outclassed any human healer.

you can also generally control your hero tanks from running way out of range and aggroing every damn thing.

I would like to point out that for certain purposes and assuming you have very specific builds ready to go--you can very much solo much of Guild Wars. This is all highly specific, of course, and it almost exclusively for farming purposes (and I'm talking about Hard Mode).

OP, if it's not too expensive for you--you might consider purchasing some of the skill packs that will unlock regular skills (or even elites) for your characters. It can take a year or longer to get all of the skills for all of the characters unlocking them through the game--capturing elites from bosses and such.

Your absolute best chance of survival is getting a good set of heroes. and the only way they work is to have good skills.

If you truly get into this game, then go to the unofficial wiki--I think they link to the now exterior Builds wiki. that gives you tons of advice and explains how each build works and its specific design. You can get a lot of insight into how balanced you need to be.

What you have to realize is the Guild War was created with PvP in mind.

I don't understand how people can say that. PvP in guildwars is about as contrived as it gets. It's a silly minigame with no point, no goal, and no substance.

Sure, it can be fun, but it's pointless.

For a game to be "created with PvP in mind," PvP has to be integral to the game. Take UO, for instance. That game was created with PvP in mind, because PvP was a fact of life.

Games where PvP is nothing more than an instanced, pointless minigame were created with PvP as an afterthought thrown in because some people enjoy it. WoW, Guild Wars, and even, to some extent, DAoC/WO and LoTRO are examples of this.

Personally I've never played PvP in Guild Wars, and I never intend to.

yes, it does have a lot of PvP, and the PvP options are quite diverse compared to other MMOs --I'm gonna call it an MMO and the fools that get pissy about that can continue getting pissy. such differences are meaningless as it's just a fucking game.

anyway, I only did PvP maybe 2% of the time. Some people would do it exclusively. Honestly, the difference between the two is quite large in GW--the types of builds that are usable, some of the skills are completely altered and some are not allowed in PvP.

PvP is dead, I will be playing in the monthly tournament in a few hours, and I doubt there will even be 40 guilds playing.

I probably have some items laying around if you need any. I don't usually interact with people because most of them are just annoying. For this reason, I usually sell my items to merchants (yes, almost all greens too).

In regards to soloing, just you (1) in your party is virtually suicide unless you are farming a boss only. Heros are generally better than henchmen alone, but this is only valid if you have the skills to create your hero builds.

I'm not a fan of rushing through things, but I'll be more than help you through it. I still like the scenery of Prophecies the best, I generally explore areas for fun, just to look at it.

In regards to PVP, I prefer the pseudo-PvP (like alliance battles) where there are side objectives and it's not so much focused on killing others.

the PvX wiki contains the builds that you can look at. I has both PvE builds and PvP builds.

Keep one thing in mind while starting off with the free trial.........you can't trade with anybody for the first 24 hrs that you play. The folks that have some nice free stuff to give you to help you out......they'll have to wait 24 hrs from the time you first log on. I think you get like 10-14 hours on the free trial and then it expires but by then you should have an idea of whether you like it or not.

The area that you'll be in is called Pre-searing and as has been mentioned, it takes place before the main storyline starts. There is no death penalty in Pre-searing so it doesn't matter if you die. There are a very limited amount of skills in Pre-searing but it will give you an idea of some of the skills.

My opinion.....try each secondary class before you choose one. That will give you a lot of extra experience and help you to level up a bit more. Since this is your first time, get as high of a level as you can before you go to Post-Searing(if you even can on the trial.....I'm not totally sure). Leveling in Prophecies is the slowest of any of the games BUT.....a lot of quests that you do will give you skills as part of the reward. That's helpful and generally doesn't happen in any of the other games. Just take your time and enjoy......there's a lot of great people who are willing to help. :)

Sad. On all servers? I remember that UK/Euro servers were way more active in PvP than other servers. Way back when HoH decided server access to The Underground, the US had maybe 3 hours of access per day, --and only when the UK was asleep. so, 11pm-3am or so (CST). haha. Ecto was way up to 15k per piece at the time. Well, that's the highest that I remember it.

then they killed ecto farming with loot scaling + granting access via server-wide title achievements. bleh.

Also, the Luxons were always taking control of AB, and at the time at least, Luxon was mostly UK.

Good stuff..thanks!

what profession did you choose?

definitely do all of the secondary quests to gain experience and test out the various skills.

I can say that for me, my overall favorite class to play was probably Elemental (though it's a bit easy) or Necromancer. I started to really get into assassin (Factions) near the end.

Ranger is probably the most versatile, but you need all of the games to really get it going. Ranger kind of sucks early game.

k. so whatever you do, do not choose ranger as your secondary. :D

that was my very first build, and it kinda sucked. You do get to change yoru secondary rather late in prophecies (much, much earlier in the other campaigns--you can even travel to the other campaigns if you have them and do it sooner--which will also allow you to choose the other professions not available in proph)

anyway, the typically synergistic secondary for a Warrior is Monk. But to be honest, all of my late, end game, super farming and PvE team builds for Warrior ended up being Warrior skills only.
I always preferred sword and adrenaline builds. Factions has some awesome adrenaline skills--Dragon Slash FTMFW!

warrior/ele is pretty fun, but low energy pool for warrior is very limiting. you can make an uber tank by using some ele earth skills. --generally best for tanking/slowing enemies with earth or water, as the super damage ele skills are high energy.

It's been a long time since I dusted off my copy... maybe I should reinstall and see if anything has changed since I went to the Hall of Heroes with an IWAY PUG.

Nothing is separated by servers anymore. HA is completely dead, there are times when hours go by before you can find an opponent.
