No, why would you think it was?

It's an RPG. I think it's fun, as RPG's go. Not the best, but not the worst. I'm playing it right now, holding me over till Hellgate. The funny thing is, I've had a Guildwars shirt since beta started and I didn't actually buy the game till a few weeks ago.

I respect your opinion, but please state it as such. Word it as, "I didn't like it", not "It sucks". Especially considering how many people do like it. It's more beneficial to the OP if you actually explain why you feel so negatively.

Cheapest is $50, sorry dude. Even if you buy it online from them, they still charge the same. It's a tough $50 to toss, but I can't think of any other good action RPGs right now either. That's why I got it, not regretting it really.

It isn't the mass item hunt like Diablo, but it plays more like current MMORPG's, which I think is better than how Diablo played. Hellgate will play the same way, except it will have the massive amount of items and random map generation that I loved in Diablo, so I'm really looking forward to it.

There are a lot of things that are different in Guildwars that are important to know about. For instance, you don't gain skills by gaining a level, you either earn them in quests or buy them. The first area you start in has quests that give you skills, and you want to do those because you can't buy them. You also never return to that area, so it's very important to find the few quests that give skills. They are pretty easy to find, so don't worry. You don't have to explore half the world to get them :p

Well, unless you are an elementalist :(

1- The storyline has no integrity, because of the way each person follows it on his own, and you can go back to do things you've already done. You could have witnessed the death of an NPC, then you can go back to another mission and fight with him the next day.
2- The class system makes everyone more uniform.
3- Combat is boring.
4- You only interact with other players when you are in a town. Even then, all you're doing is selling/buying things that you can't show off except to your group, or dancing naked.
5- The graphics aren't very good.

Someone in the Hot Deals forum found this deal at Best Buy for this week. It's worth checking out if you're actually interested in the game. :)

1. True, although this is the case in many games of this nature. It's odd, but unavoidable.
2. The class system kind of makes everyone self-sustaining, but that makes it so you can solo fine. There are many ways to play every class, just like in Diablo, so it's not too bad really.
3. Combat in most RPG's is boring. MXO had the best fighting of any RPG IMO. In Guildwars it can be a lot of fun when you are doing big battles, like your group of 6 vs a group of 10. That can get real ugly.
4. Welcome to every other RPG ever made. Except they never let you interact with anyone except in a chat lobby. So this is actually done better in Guildwars than any other RPG made.
5. True. I was expecting more from a game that isn't an MMO. I was disappointed by this aspect, but it still beats many other RPGs sadly.

I agree with just about everything but the bolded text. I thought GW was beautiful, especially considering how smooth it runs on my ancient 0.9 Ghz system with ALL the settings cranked. If you're comparing it to HL/Quake4/any current Gen FPS, you need a reality check. Compared to the current MMO market, I'd put GW's graphics above EQ2 and WOW.

As for why the game isn't worth $50... the game gets stale FAST. It's awesome the first time through while you explore new areas, build your character and jump into PvP... but after that it's a complete bore-fest. Taking a 2nd or 3rd character through the whole game is literally hell, because everything is the same. Sure you meet some new NPCs, but only about 10-20% of the quests you find are class specific and ALL of the areas you visit will be exactly the same. The replay value of the "campaign" is nil. As for PvP, ya it's a lot of fun, but it gets old too, and the fact that you have to take two characters through the whole campaign in order to have plenty of customization available to you just kills it.

Awesome concepts, and the industry is definitly better for having GW brought into it, but in the end it fails on so many levels. The dev teams should have stuck to what they do best and made it more like a 3D Diablo clone.

Edit: Aw... so much for my 1337 post count. :p

Just about anything can go above WoW, it's so cartoony. But EQ2? You are mad. EQ2 has the best graphics of any RPG to date.

I played it this last summer with about 5 friends. I had a lot of fun playing it. I enjoy the two-class system, I enjoy the combat (although the aggro system is kind of stupid). I enjoy the missions because it gives you a more focused goal.

I have beaten the last mission in the hell/fire place. I forget the name now, but it's practically the last mission in the campaign.

IMHO, just because EQ2's engine might be better tech doesn't mean it's more aesthetically pleasing. I'd take GW's graphics over EQ2's ANY day... the player models especially are horrifice. Everything in that game looks like it's made of plastic. They can use all the high poly models and shaders they want... the game still looks like complete ass. At least it's a step up from the original I suppose.

AS far as not interacting with people outside of a city, ITS A BLESSING

If youve ever played Everquest and had to fight with trains, camps, people stealing named spawns, its nice to not have to deal with jackasses...

There are no RPG's that have a monthly fee, so that's a moot point.

People like to compare Guild Wars to EQ2 and WoW. They are distinctly different games. They should compare it with Diablo 2 more. It is a "single player" campaign you play with other people. It is NOT a persistant world MMORPG like WoW and EQ2.

My own thoughts on the graphics of EQ2, they are technically outstanding, but look terrible. Everything is gray or brown. Compare them to WoW's graphics. WoW is technically not too impressive these days. It is the Warcraft3 engine. But Blizzard has some of the best artists and I think the game is very pleasing. Guild Wars is sort of a mix between them. It is technically impressive, and still has pretty good art. The engine itself impresses me because you can download a couple hundred Kb file and it is the game. Start it up and it will begin streaming the content down (this includes settings such as resolution as well as new levels) as you play.

Probably the largest complain I have heard is that the weapons are boring. GW focuses more on acquiring spells and mixing those than acquiring items.

I seriously must have played a different EQ2 than you people. There were a lot more colors than gray or brown. WoW is all cartoony, that's why it has so many plain colors.

Compare:

EQ2
WoW
Guildwars

If you ask me, EQ2 tries more to look realistic, WoW tries to look like a cartoon, and Guildwars is in between. I think EQ2 armor looks the best, because for some reason in Guildwars the textures look lower res than in screenshots, not sure why.
