I need a game to play for the summer (hard to believe but I can't play CS:S all summer) and I was thinking of getting Guild Wars. I used to be a huge Diablo fan but really didn't like the idea of playing night and day to be any good in Diablo, I didn't have that much time to play. I've read that GW is more a game of skill than of hours spent playing, so maybe this is my kind of game. And I love the graphics, much better than WoW IMO. And not to mention cheaper. Any comments?

EDIT: Can't spell "Guild"

pretty good. I would hold my breath on "cheaper" Im sure they will issue expansion packs that will end up being equal to the cost of what monthly subscriptions would have been like.

They're going to release periodic expansions, but you don't have to buy them to keep playing, so it is cheaper.

I've heard lots of good things about it so far; why not give it a shot?

Well I'm 15 and really don't have a job (and I wouldn't pay a monthly fee over 5 dollars even if I did have one) so I really don't want to play anything like WoW or EQ2.

How sure are you guys about the expansion packs? Blizzard released 1 expansion pack for Diablo over the course of 3 years.

And what do you guys think of the actual gameplay, is it a item-based game or a character-based game? Or even a fighting skill-based game?

There will defintely be expansions and guild wars is not published by blizzard. The developers are former blizzard employees who worked on diablo. I believe levels are currently capped at 20 and you will not be able get beyond that without buying future expansions.

well it's action packed, the map is huge, in order to get the elite skills you have to hunt for bosses located in the middle of nowhere.

it's a team game but it doesn't force you to play with ppl. And they have seemless patching. You can continue questing without patching (like if you in the middle of a 30min -1 hr instance). It requires a bit of reflexes/strategy when the enemies focus fire on you, you have to a) run out of there b) cast a protective/healing skill c) die. I'm noticing that in pvp it's much easier to target the mages/healers then warriors since they are tanks and take a long time to kill. Like last night our team had almost wiped out because someone pulled too many monsters. But one person was able to complete the objective and we were able to finish the mission. :)

There are cons, some ppl are idiots. One idiot can mess up a mission near the last few parts. Specially idiots who don't learn from their previous mistakes... ie rushing and attacking a boss headon while drawing 6-10 minions is not a good idea the first time but doing it three times?

Christ why don't you post in the correct forum to find out?

After all, it's not like there are any reviews on the internet or anything.
