I have heard good things, thinking about getting it.

I heard there is no monthly fee? Anyone know if this is like diablo2 where just a few people connect to server? or is it an MMO with a big world?

EDIT: we are in the wrong forum, search "guild wars" in software.

I have it, played it for a few hours last night. It was fun.

as far as how it works, it's more diablo-ish than it is MMO. everyone connects to the same virtual game world and you can see/interact with people as you like and form up parties. Once you leave a town/settlement type area, though, the game "instances" out the game world for you/your party. So if you go solo-ing, you won't see any other real people, just NPCs and the like. When I was fiddling with the beta events, though, the game really picks up once you hit the level cap (lvl 20 which isn't too hard to get to at all) and you do things like guild wars, and arena matches and the like.

If you're looking for an MMORPG, you might want to just pick up WoW tho. This is more like co-op PVP type game with an exceptionally fancy matchmaking/character creation system when you boil it all down. Good storyline tho.

I got in on the last beta event from a friend's guest-pass. My copy of the game should be here next Tuesday.

I do believe the lvl20 character cap is gone now, replaced by a cap on attribute levels.

I got a copy yesterday and I'm hooked!! So much I'm putting up my 54 rogue in WoW on the back burner or possibly canceling my account.

My biggest selling point was how fast the game is. Leveling is simple; you can get 20 in a week playing a few hours a day. But the game isn't focused on leveling; it is about PvP and Coop instances. The maps are large and there is plenty of strategy on picking your spell combinations, exploring and tactics. And the no monthly cost is nice bonus. If you want a great Diablo-ish type game with amazing PvP/Coop I would highly recommend this game.

Has anyone tried solo-ing here? That's why I cancelled WoW at 60, I don't like having to group to get good loot.

You can get henchmen which are like computer controlled group members. I'm not sure if they are sufficient to solo hard stuff though, but I imagine you could do a large percentage of quests with them.

K lvl 9, on mission 2 at the moment. It's the same missions as the beta/preview events. All I can say is that Necros are way overpowered. :p

edit: would've won too if stupid allies didn't trebuchet the healer/rez guy....

I was solo for my 6 levels so it is possible I would think. And if not there are NPC's you can add to your group (Monk, Warrior, Ranger and Necro)

you know, I think people who preordered and didn't get the retail copy yet could've been playing the last few days...

because it didn't require the CD key until today.

This is true.
My friend that got the preorder kit has been able to play, but I wasn't because I'd only used his guest-pass during the beta.

guys. I dont get into MMORPGS, for 2 reasons, the fee, and i wouldnt spend enough time with it each month to warrant $10. Would this game be enjoyable if i was to only spend like 1 hr or so everyday, instead of the typical mmo where u haveta spend 3-4 hrs to get anywhere?

Yeh, only a $30 expansion/content package every couple months. :p
For most players, it will end up costing the same on average per month as the more conventional mmorpg's with monthly fees, due to these frequent "content" expansions.
Only those who will be content on never getting anything new will save the monthly fee.......
