I bought GW a while ago and have been enjoying it greatly, although I don't get a whole lot of play time. My buddy plays it way more than me, but since it's my comp in my room I tend to kick him off a lot ("it's 1:30am, leave fcker, I have class @ 9 tmr"). A very well made game with few bugs and lots of replayability. Plus I noticed that selling items was easier since they change the interface to be not so goidy with the latest patch. Of course, since NCsoft is made up of Blizzard guys and Arena.net from Battle.net guys, I can see how they made such a good quality game.

All that aside, I'm only a level 4 Necro/Mesmer but I have no idea how to distribute attribute points. In Diablo 2 there was fewer skills and there was really only a few skills per class that got maxed/primarily used. In GW I guess the only way to upgrade skills is adding attribute points. I got Vampiric Gaze that steals health and I added two more points to Blood Magic yet it BARELY does anymore damage/health steal.

So basically I can't seem to dish much damage. My weapons blow and the only damage dealing skills I have are that Gaze and the thing that sends a swarm of flies. The mesmer skills don't seem very useful, perhaps they are more anti-caster/PvP? For the time being I'm just PvM until I get better and can build a char from the ground up to play PvP (ala D2 style).

I'd get wooped playing PvP since this is more or less my 1st character and given subsequent characters are always built better. I hardly have a clue how to play the game still. So given PvM only, I should pretty much just focus on the Necro skills and attributes?

This is not a simple question so please consider that my answer is one way to look at it. There are two popular necro builds, 1) Minion master and 2) blood. If you played dialblo then you should know what a minion master looks like. Please understand minion master is no good for PvP because there arent many corpses and casters go first in PvP. On blood necro most spells that hurt the enemy heal you. Its a very defencive build. This is the route my necro chose. As mesmer goes backfire is one of the best spells in the game.
Most consider curses to be a weak line but there are some nice spells in there as well.
