This isnt an mmorpg. I know thats been said before but it isnt and dosent play like one. The rpg aspect is fun and it has a good story line. Game play is fun and challanging. This is first off a PVP game. And the PvP dosnt involve griefing or corpse camping or ganking, I actullay like the PvP in this game. The PvE aspect also has a different dynamic that caught me by suprise, I'm used to the wow or eq Tank, Healer, Damage dealer group compisition and that just dosent work here. Its best to design your player to be self contained. There is so much varation in player design that it can hardly be stressed enough. And the PvE game is really something to do to get you to level 20, and then the game really openes up (so I'm told, I;m not near that level)

The use of acronyms without explaination is a problem in this post. pvp, pve, pvf, pvg, WTF? When i use acronyms i try to EXPLAIN them, for example WTF (what the fvck).

Sorry about that there really common terms in these sort of games.
PvP= player vs player
Pve=player vs environment often called carebear

Is there any online (that is, $$$) component? Also, what does pvp, pve really mean. I assume it means real player versus player and real player versus bot. If im correct how does the pricing scale. Can one play this game without an online component?

I gave it a 7... i've got about 15 hours into the game now, and am level 9. It's SOOOOO repetitive. First 5 hours was fun, but now that i'm doing the same zone over and over again, it's getting boring.

I see a lot of votes for 9's and 10's and it beating WoW by 2x the votes, but I wonder how accurate these votes are and whether they would hold true after 3 months of playing both games. WoW has a lot more gameplay than GW.

I voted 8/10 for GW at this point.

There are no monthly charges, you buy the box and your done. The game is online only. PvP andPvE are both avaliable to any one at any time.

Yeah but every few months you have to buy the expansion else you can't play anymore, so its about the same.

And for the guy who didn't know:

PvP: Play the game and do quests, but you can ambush the alliance or hoade and attack other players

PvE: Just quest all day long and don't worry about running into a much stronger player because he can't touch you

There have been no expansions yet, but they have stated that you do not have to buy the expansions to play. Having said that I think it will be a no brainer that you will want the expansions if you want to continue to play. Just look at how EQ1 evolved.

Yeah, and I'll tell you what: World of Warcraft does NOT deserve 9 out of 10. It's buggy, it crashes at least once per session, servers are often laggy (Orgrimmar is HORRIBLE!) and the patch system is one of the worst I've ever seen. I'm sorry I paid for 6 months in advance before I had really given the game a full 30 day trial.

Jason

Totally disagree with you. Never crashed EVER not ONCE. I do not get a DROP of lag playing WoW except for the RARE night that it is a yellow link bar. I have been in ORG with over 50 or more PC's runnin around and don't drop a frame. I bet it's your system being under par or you are commenting from the first few months of play when they were fixing all the probs. I have been in raids PVP where there are easily 100 PCs fighting and barely a hint of lag. Most people that smash WoW don't have a clue about the scope of the game they are bashing.... you are talking about slowdowns in Orgrimarr well yeah! I was at my buddies house and his system drops to a crawl....he has a sh|t system! 1GHz Tbird with a GF3! Stutter step Stutter step. If you got a real system you won't have ANY probs. There isn't a shooter out there that puts the number of high poly players on the screen at once like WoW does! Even BF1942 or BFVietnam don't compare to the ultimate horsepower that you could need once you are in areas like I'm describing. I admit I am a WoW fanboy but I wouldn't be if I didn't get the experience I described. Yeah I've heard people gripe during pvp about lag....it's funny because if the server was lagging well so would "I" and I'll ask them the same thing "What is your system spec?" It never fails somebody that is in a place they shouldn't be in the game with their system!

Edit: Can't think of a game since the first Halflife, Doom2, Diablo, Diablo2 that kept my attention like WoW does......9.5 I'll dock a 1/2 point for the crappy patching system. I'll give you that one!

Wow, so many varying opinions!
Actually, I think Gamespot aren't really easy on games. If you go to their highest rated list, only the best games (IMO) are over 9, which are Riddick, Rome Total Wars, HL2, WoW, Guild Wars, Pirates, and BiA. I haven't played them all, but I heard from many people that they are good.
Anyway, so this game is more like Diablo than MMORPGs?

Its crashed once for me in 8 months. The lag in oggrimar is your settings too high for your PC. I agree the patch system sucks, id get better settings for your system before judging the game on YOUR configuration problems.

Word!

I can understand people misunderstanding or thinking it's internet lag when indeed it is CPU lag on their end. If say you can play Counterstrike Source and it runs butter smooth at 1280x1024 and then you try and play WoW at the same res you are in for a world of disappointment once you get to busy areas..... the most models you'll see on avg. in Counterstrike is say 10 guys? In some busy areas in WoW you'll see 50+ that will make it so you'll have to knock your settings down a little.

I never played it, but gamespot sucks at reviewing games. They give almost everything a high rating.

Oggrimar in the busy areas at peak times can push 200+ chars on screen easy.

At 1600x1200 No AA, Max AF, all quality settings, quality settings in nvidias drivers, V-sync and triple buffering, the rig in my sig runs at about 31-40fps (to see your frames per second, hit Ctrl + R while playing).
