Hello Modeps,

Before you do anything
1. Make sure that you have extracted HiJackthis to a folder that is isolated before removing anything, for hijackthis makes backups within the folder it is in.
2. Disable system restore, malware can come back through it.
3. Reboot into safe mode.
4. Close all browsers/windows explorer.

fix the following in hijackthis(kill the process in process viewer, if its there)

It is some kind of "anti virus" program which is more likely a spyware program than any real antivirus program. I just sent it to the recycle bin (entire folder) and haven't seen it come back yet. Without it, I suddenly started having fewer process problems while online. Hmm imagine that.

VBouncer adware.

I am still having problems with ads popping up. And i am sure they are from malware and not the sites i surf. Are there any other problems you noticed in my hijackthis log?

I get, Error: Loader couldn't initialize service at boot and Explorer.exe does not start so I need to load it manually. And I cannot log out of the account as it logs back it automatically even if the account has a password. I had a bunch of spyware recently and removed it hastily and I think I either killed to much or something is still left.

Here is my hijackthis log.

hello SaintQ

Your log appears clean. Congradulations. But do install SP2 if you have not, to prevent infections.

try fixing the following things:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O1 - Hosts file is located at: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000010-6F7D-442C-93E3-4A4827C2E4C8} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Explorer2] C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

admuncher is known to cause conflicts, so i would reccomend uninstalling it if problem persists

I let my roommate use my computer and can't get rid of all this crap since he used it. I've used spysweeper, ad-aware, spybot, cwshredder, etc.. in safe mode and I can't get rid of it all. Anything hiding in this log I should be taking care of?

Hello ,

Before you do anything
1. Make sure that you have extracted HiJackthis to a folder that is isolated before removing anything, for hijackthis makes backups within the folder it is in.
2. Download LSP Fix and Winsockfix
3. Disable system restore, malware can come back through it.
4. Reboot into safe mode.
5. Close all browsers/windows explorer.

fix the following in hijackthis(kill the process in process viewer, if its there)
  • R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa
  • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
  • R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
  • O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch
  • O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch
  • O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com
  • O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
  • O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SESync] "C:\Program Files\SED\SED.exe"
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Additional Steps

1. Clear your Temporary Files
2. Remove the following VIA instructions provided:
3. Delete the following folders:
  • C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer
  • C:\Program Files\SED\
4. Run LSP-Fix and remove the following:
  • calsp.dll
5.Restart into normal windows

Notes

  • 1. Use winsockfix only if connection dies. Use LSP-Fix to remove only that one entry.

Thank you for the help. Just a couple more questions...

It seems the only thing that I cannot get rid of now is VX2 something or other. I have this program called VX2Finder that doesn't detect anything but ad-aware can't remove it in safe or normal mode. I believe this program also prevents ad-aware from running on startup to remedy this program as well. Also, this may or may not be related, but the following keep re-appearing in Hijack This..

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com

Any further help is greatly appreciated.

Tony

Schadenfroh, thanks for the quick reply.

I downloaded the VX2 cleaner, and despite the newest definitions of ad-aware detecting the VX2 malware on my system, the plug-in says my system is 'clean'. I also noticed that during ad-aware scanning and cleaning, explorer crashes at the same time. Again, this is probably related to the malware but I'm just trying to give you as much info as possible. Also, when I reboot I know get the message: "An exception occurred while trying ot run ""C:\Windows\system32\dkcprop.dll", UMonitor"

That's about all I can think to type for now.
