I hate to rehash something from earlier in the post, but here I go...

I read somewhere (probably here on AT) about these rounded IDE cables.Yes they are more aero-dynamic, but they are not part of the IDE Specs. (something to do with interference as opposed to the flat cables stopping that problem) If that is indeed the case, making your own aero-dynamic IDE Cable from a flat one seems to be the best bet!

The thought is that since you're basically mashing the wires right next to each other there is a possibility for crosstalk between the wires but, the same problem would arise with custom made ones as they're really no different, just lacking the inflexible plastic coating. IMHO there is really no practical risk of crosstalk on an IDE cable.
 
Except for not noting that many fan makers dB spec is meaningless (as no conditions are attached to the value like how far away from the fan was the reading taken and at what angle (or was an average of several angles used)), IOW they aren't directly comparable, ambient noise level etc. - Thermaltake is a particular case in point - their dB specs aren't worth the match to burn the page they were printed on - a pretty good article. Personally I prefer a review by a competent reviewer (say, vapor on XtremeSystems.org). To going by any spec sheet.

Also, SilenX stats, lol. I'm pretty sure they measure dbA at 5v and airflow at 12v.
