I am using all of my computers at home behind a firewall and am wondering how it would be to just open up the guest account on Windows 2k? How secure is the guest account from the outside and what problems could it cause?
the default "guest" account is too vunerable not because your firewall is ineffective but if someone where to ever bypass it and you have the default "guest" account enabled, they would have the same rights as anyone who's logging into your computer as "guest." The level of security is up to you since you dictate the level of access any account gets to your win2k machine.
I would recommend making a new user account and setting the permissions for that instead of using the "guest" account default. This way, you'll get to better understand access permissions and be a little more secure
If I set up, a guest account, in Windows 2000, on my home machine, which is behind a freesco router, could I access it from my nt 4 machine at work? how could I log into it? would it be like I was right at my home machine?
ArkAoss, I believe what you're trying to do is set up a VPN which can be done via the internet. Try doing a search for it since I know there has been recent discussion on it and probably more detailed in the archives.
