That surprises me too. I guess it was too much to expect that Nvidia had gotten SLI to work correctly after a few years of development, eh?
 
lol... it's not that hard to get a game to work with SLI. Everybody is making this crap out of nothing. Just edit nvapps.xml and add the SLI line with the correct number for what kind of SLI you want the game to run in.
 
why the fvuck should we have to do that in order to get a game to work?!?!! Espically if I had a rig that I paid $1,200 JUST for graphics cards on!

Yes, that aspect of SLI definitely hasn't been given a lot of press. However, both VIA and ATI have motherboards coming out that support their own version of SLI. Hopefully one of these will be totally hardware based and won't require any special "driver profiles" to operate.

ATI has already shown a pre-production motherboard that was apparently operating with two different video cards and won't require a link board between the video cards. All video coordination will take place through the PCI-E ports.

You can enable it manually, or you can play your no-name title that probably isnt graphically intensive anyway at 500fps instead of 1000. I seriously dont see any highly graphic intensive titles off of that list that single 6800U/GT wouldnt slaughter.
 
Im sure there will be lots of 3rd party apps for creating profiles. Kinda like the Rage3D Tweak app for Radeons and so forth.
 
The reason WHY not all games have a profile is because some games may not work.
When SLI first came about, I noticed this in the Anand review, and commented on it in various threads.
SLI will NOT always be active in all games, and there *may* be issues with *some* games.
That's why nVidia don't enable it for everything.
This also means that, while 2x6600GT may perform like 1x6800GT when the 6600GT's are in SLI, they may not always be in SLI, so the 6800GT is ALWAYS the better solution, because it's equal speed when 6600's are SLI, and much faster than the SLI won't work.

Plus you have to figure that most people who are buying SLI will know how to change settings pretty easily.

heh. good that theres a fix, or else we would be at nvidia's mercy. :Q
 
I'm curious though.... If all you have to do is edit a config file and SLI works great on whatever game you choose, why wouldn't nVidia just include all games and let the user select between SFR and AFR? My guess is probably because it isn't quite that easy... I imagine that some games will work fine, and others will not.

btw... Those of you talking about editing the config file, what does one edit the file with? Not what app, but with what values? I mean say I want to play Rome - Total War, what do I add (or subtract) from the config file? Editing config files is easy, but knowing what to edit is the trick, just ask any Linux user!

Edit: ok. nevermind, I read the addendum to the article that explains what to do... nVidia could program a GUI to do that like they did for creating application specific profiles for the rest of the settings?
