I saw one at our manufacturing plant. I don't remember all that much about it, except hearing "Please, sir, stand behind the yellow line" and "Please, sir, do not pick up the boards without an antistatic strap". :)

A wave solder is used in the manufacture of circuit boards mostly. You put a bunch of components on a circuit board, or anything you need to solder, then you run the board over a wave of molten solder. This secures all your connections quickly and much easier than doing it by hand. Of course this can only be done with components on one side of the board or you'll fry the ones that get hit by the wave.
