BTW, I too just bought some stuff - picked up Legend of Mana and Parasite Eve II (Squaresoft RPGs) for $7 each from BlockBuster - woohoo! I love their $7 previously played PS games!
Even if they stink, they are worth $20 each in trade in at my game store...

Heh...I got mine w/o preorder. Just walked into the Greensboro Software Etc. and asked if they had any. Guess I'm just lucky.
Of course, the best PS2 game is FF9.

bdawg - i'm confused...did they release ff9 as both a ps2 and ps1 game? cuz i know you can play it on ps1?

The PS2 lineup is pretty dang good, IMHO:
TTT - I seriously want this game, looks beautiful, moves like Tekken should - deep fighting gameplay. Excellent.
SSX - Amazing graphics and deep gameplay - I don't like snowboarding games, but this is really good.
Madden 2001 - the only football game to consider for the PS2
AC2 - my favorite so far. Hard as heck, deep, excellent graphics, mech customization to all get out. Awesome.
Summoner - Good looking RPG, but hard to tell from a rental. Excellent story, some grphical glitches.
Timesplitters/Unreal Tournament - both great multiplayer FPSs but both lack a bit without friends to play against.
Sky Oddessy - Difficult but fantastic flight sim!
But I also still enjoy PS1 games on my PS2 such as the new Final Fantasy IX. Bdawg is right about FFIX being awesome!

Farbio - the PS2 plays PS1 games, and some of us PS2 owners, like me, have bought it to play on our PS2 - also, the PS2 applies some basic filters to the PS1 emulation that improve graphics and load times.

Farbio, no it's just PS1, but the PS2 is backwards compatable, so I play my PS1 games in the PS2 (less floor clutter).
FFIX is the only game I've been playing in my PS2.

Man, I was up till two o'clock last night playing!!! Its awesome, I have never seen such superb graphics. Whats even more unbelievable is that the first generation games are the only ones out. Give it a year, and they will be even BETTER. Definately worth the $299. If you have the opportunity to purchase it, you better, or you will kick yourself in the arse later. I guarantee it!!!!

Midnight Run, is ok, buts the graphics are awesome, no popup or slow down.
Driver 2 - Put it in the PS2 and it took away all the slowdown. WOOHOO. Damn I'm happy!!!
