Guess we should have gotten a new vacuum sooner

After chasing our dog around I noticed an obscene about of dust in the air, reflecting off the sunlight only two days after we vacuumed.

We decided to try out a new one. For a comparison we vacuumed the entire house twice with the old one. We then went over it twice with the new one. Here is what the old one missed:

Nothing, and I mean nothing vacuums like a dyson. It is simply the best vacuum, ever. Welcome to vacuum bliss.

damn it! I really want a new vacuum and Dyson has some really good ones. I don't want to spend that much though!!!!

Of course after seeing this....I have to to.

I've had mine for almost 7 years now. Best money I ever spent.

STOP

I have some extra cash coming in this month and keep thinking that I can get a Hoover or something to get me by.

I do have $175 worth of "points" available from work. How much did that beast cost you OP?

IIRC, I paid about $300 for mine. It was a refurb and I had a coupon, though. It's been great for the last 3 years.

For the love of God, why would anyone spend $300+ for a fucking vacuum cleaner? I'm sure it vacuums well, but for over $300? FUCK THAT.

That being said why would anyone spend more than $300 for a CPU? $30 for a heatsink? And best of all $100,000 for a car???!

I have pets, I have allergies, I appreciate a clean home. I can give you dozens of reasons why a quality vacuum is worth $300 or $400.

Bought a new vacuum cleaner for $200. Some hoover cyclonic bagless thing. It's a beast.

When I first used it just in the living room upstairs, it picked up a HUGE amount of dirt. Filled up the entire container in a minute. Picks up everything.

There are many vacuums that clean just as good or better than a Dyson for cheaper. You're just paying for the expensive brand name with a Dyson.

I have two cats and a son. I need a good vacuum but don't want to buy too much vacuum.

I'm thinking Infinity level. Not Honda but don't need Mercedes. $300 would be a reasonable price if it worked great and was made to last.

Dyson's are the best vaccums out there and there well worth it. What you picked up consists of human skin/hair/etc, pet hair, outside dirt, mold and of course dust mites. Just be sure to dump the waste into the trash can without spilling any.

I would just like to recommend the Hoover Whisper as an alternative option to the Dyson. It's only available through Walmart, but is much cheaper (I paid something like $105 with tax and shipping).

Check out this fatwallet thread which contains a information and opinions about various vacuums. Based on the opinions of cycloneman, I purchased the Whisper. I've only had it since Thanksgiving, but so far so good.

Good vacuum cleaners used to cost 2000 bucks. 300 is a freaking steal.

This is truth.
My parents kept a shitty little Electrolux around for many years past its prime. Apparently they spent a crapload of money to buy the thing and it was worth 50 bucks a year to keep repairing it.

I got a 200 dollar Eureka on sale for a hundred and it was worth it. The bags are cheap and I dont need to replace them often anyways. I use the Arm & Hammer filtered bags and they seem to work OK.

Thanks!

For $100 I'll try it and give it away if I don't like it. Ive got $75 in Wallyworld gift cards anyways.

Don't tell me it was a Christmas present to your wife. How's the couch?

Nope - we had both been having allergy problems lately and after seeing all taht dust in the air we decided this was something we needed to look into

Best Buy has it on sale for $300. You can get another 5% CB through Bing

Did you not see the crap that a cheaper vacuum didn't pickup?
