Much will depend on how China acts with respect to the UN resolutions.

as a permanent member of the Security Council, they have the ability to veto or water down what is proposed.
As a country; they also have the ability to weaken the impact of the embargos that the SK is implimenting.

Doesn't take much to man a battleship and fire shots in to the mainland.

I guess we could take the USS Iowa out of mothballs, and bringing back the Mighty Mo (USS Missouri) for another Korean War would be interesting, if impractical.

The U.S. has not had an active battleship since 1992. Modern weapons have made these hugely expensive gun and missile platforms too vulnerable.

Maybe you missed the part where NK committed an act of war against our ally?

The U.S. would not be "starting" anything if we were to support SK in their response against NK. In fact, the war between NK and SK never even ended, so you'll have to go back half a century, or more, to begin discussing who "started" it...

Stay in school kids.
Well, if we go to war, it's the end of the Constitutional Republic for not taking the Founders' advice.

Alliances are stupid, Jefferson and Washington agree with me and I agree with them.

Go back under you bridge, troll.

------------

I like the beating of war drums though. China won't let a war develop in their backyard. They will lose a lot of influence they have built up in the region if they allow a full-blown war in their backyard.

They are still there. They blame the US presence for increasing tensions.

might as well ignore them. Nothing we can possibly do to please those people. They are hell-bent to blame it on the U.S. no matter what.

BTW, the U.S. stock market is taking a beating today partially due to this piece of news. Wonder how the Asian markets will open tomorrow.

They better stop or we may send them a letter saying how angry we are at them for not stopping!

The market is bi-polar right now. There was nothing but bad news between the oil spill, Europe and North Korea, Housing Prices and Financials, and it closes down 22 points.

A couple of days ago we had bunch of excellent news and it crashed. I suspect that a lot of traders take advantage of good news as an opportunity to sell, and bad news as a chance to scoop up cheap stocks, but that's pure speculation.

And I would speculate the market recovered due to the new consumer confidence numbers and unemployment numbers that came out. THOSE have a direct impact on the market.

I seriously think Kim Jong Il will be removed from power within NK before NK actually goes to war with SK.

Perhaps, but by whom?

In any event you can bet your rectum that every artillery emplacement has been identified and has targeting information already loaded for the bunker busters.

That very real threat may be gone very quickly if it looks like war.

Every couple years NK does something to blackmail the rest of the world. Kim must be getting low on good cigars.

I've always gotten the impression like the population of North Korea was basically brainwashed by Kim and cut off from all knowledge of the outside world.

We need to have a "food and porn" airdrop operation over NK. I bet the NK people would revolt if they had to go back to eating whatever scraps Kim Jong Il allowed them after they had tasted our BK Double Down and Tera Patrick.

I know you're half joking, but I've always felt like America's best weapon against foreign opposition is our entertainment industry.

I bet the North Koreans would overshrow KJI if it meant a Lady Gaga concert Pyongyang :p

On a documentary someone posted a while back, there was a scene of a wall on the DMZ that "Come see for yourself" written on it. Poignant.

I could see some NK sub captain fucking up and sinking a warship on his own. It would be interesting if ww3 started over something like that.

i am fully aware of the cease fire that NK/SK has and the history of the Korean war. my dad served in the Korean war and i was stationed at Osan Air Base for a time. My point is that we as a country can not afford the monetary cost of a full scale engagement with North Korea.

Yeah I think warmongers in this thread forget we are currently occupying another country which is a multi billion dollar money pit. Waging war against a significantly more advanced enemy while our economy is in the shitter wouldn't be the best idea right now.

The right way to go about this would be to pressure China into cutting trade with NK. How are they going to wage a war without oil from both SK and China?
