Guess the material game!

I was holding a block of material earlier today that was about 12" long x 6" wide x 3" tall and it was worth almost $12,000.

Can anyone guess what it was?

Update: Nobody got it. It was a block of Vespel SP-1.

I was doing cost estimates for manufacturing certain assemblies out of this material and was marveling at how freaking expensive this stuff is.

negative. nickel's density is close to steel, and about the same price as high-grade aerospace steel. that dimensions would only net you like...$2k worth of nickel, if that.

my guess is some sort of precious metal, but eh, i work in a materials lab, so we have tons of crap come through.

Wait wait... has HP switched to some solid based ink for their printers? $12k seems low though, maybe $12mil.
